The suspect the dead don't care much but we care I suppose.

I don't know. I think I'd prefer my ashes scattered out of a airplane or tossed into the ocean. I don't expect much respect from who's ever brow I land on or whichever fish might ingest part of my remains.

I get somewhat irritated when I see people walk on the graves with their shoes. My mother and I play my aunt and grandmother (her sister and mother) favorite music mostly gospel and sax. It depends on how many people are at the grave. Technical things like cleaning up the graveyard is a plus.

I find 'ghost hunters' offensive(especially those who try to get publicity from it).

The idea that you can go and try to disturb spirits with whom you had no relationship with just for ***** and giggles is beyond rude. The whole way it tends to be done as well... who are you to barge into someone's space and command they show themselves, just 'cause you said so...

Agreed. Also, as @Nakosis suggests, it’s not so much about the dead as it is about the grieving family.
Just imagine, when you pass by a cemetery or a funeral home, that you were in there, grieving for your own recently departed mother/uncle/child/loved one.
Be quiet. Be polite. Be quiet.

It is rude. Like they were just minding their own business. The hunters don't even ask the spirits if they want to be recorded. If the spirits on those shows are even real which most are not.

I don't care for the dead, they are dead. And I don't care if anybody respects me or my dead body when I'm dead. Maybe some of my organs are still good enough to help someone live. I care about the living. That includes letting them mourn and remember their dead in peace if they wish so.

It is. It's disgusting, it's offensive, and they won't stop and a lot of times just don't see why it angers people. There's no reason, for example, it should have went to the point of a lawsuit to get them to stop doing it to Holocaust victims. They shouldn't have even been doing that in the first place.

Many years ago, I worked at a cemetery which was in a rather "seedy" part of town. One evening, this lady who worked at the sleazy roach motel across the street called to warn me about some lowlifes who were bringing a boombox and alcohol into the cemetery, saying they were going to "wake the dead."

I never did see anyone, though.

As for respect for the dead in general, I recall a while back there was a construction project, and they came across what appeared to be an old burial ground. They didn't know it was there. It makes me wonder just how many people might be buried beneath me right now and not even knowing it.

They say they do.

My husband used to pull that crap at a cemetery by our old house. He got some responses he didn't like from those he was harassing. He doesn't do it anymore.

All of the US is developed on an old Native American burial ground.

I feel like graveyards are too sprawled, and it makes them impersonal. I would prefer that we occasionally cover older graveyards with new ones in a tiered fashion to keep them smaller, burn more corpses instead of burying, or otherwise make the graveyards smaller. I think seeing a large field of gravestones is just very impersonal. You have to use a map to find a grave.

I think every 50 or 100 years we should add 10-20 feet of soil over the cemetery and add one or two stones to represent all those underneath, perhaps with a list of all the headstones. Then we would add a new layer of coffins...repeat again. It would be more respectful. When you bury a family member in a huge field its like..."Hey I'll just chuck you in this field at this random spot to show my love and respect." I'd rather feel like I was putting them into a city or a house or something that is organized.

You know what some civilizations used to build houses for the dead, and they had neighborhoods for the dead.

Interesting. I don't really believe in ghosts, so I'm not inclined to give ghost stories much credence. My view is that, if ghosts really were a thing and such a thing were possible, I would no doubt be visited by one or more dead relatives coming back to torment me. But I sleep well at night in the knowledge that such a thing will never happen.

I've(and those around me)have had enough experiences that if I were to negate them all, I'd have to consider myself foolish.

What gets me is how everyone gets a preconceived notion of what a 'haunted house' should look like. Old, falling apart... one of what I thought to be the most haunted places was a ranch style house, not too old, in good condition.
