CNN article depicts elaborate plan for Trump to overthrow election results

I would say most coups entail the use of guns.

Bloodless coups on the other hand would require a declaration of power and a considerable cadre of insiders.

I doubt Trump has neither.

Trump thought he had Pence's support. Trump did have support from many Repub Congresspeople who tried to stall the count of the electors.

What do you think would have happened if Pence had acquiesced to Trump's will and declared a number of states' electors invalid?

Do you think the majority of Repubs in Congress would have gone along and voted for Trump since neither Trump nor Biden would have had enough electoral votes?

At least Cthulhu or Giant Meteor just sort of happen and don’t involve people actively voting for an odious clown while convincing themselves (somehow) that he’s anything but.
So what you're saying is that the Joker still has a chance?

Hoo boy. The Joker is one of those people alongside Rick from Rick and Morty that are squarely in the “if you idolize them, you’ve missed the damn point” category.

Go ahead. Convince us. Tell us why this would be a good thing for anyone but trump?
Just look at his accomplishments in his first 4 years.
- Introduced "alternative facts" as a tool in politics
- stole from the military-industrial complex
- split the nation to the brink of a civil war.

Another 4 years and the US will no longer be the dominating power. Maybe it will even be bankrupt like so many of his businesses. Europe (and Australia) will be "great again" in comparison.

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...

Australia is already great. If you're looking for a ridiculously ungreat nation for your comparison, New Zealand is right there.

Memo shows Trump lawyer's six-step plan for Pence to overturn the election - CNNPolitics

One of the clearest articles I've read on the matter, actually. It makes a lot more sense than just seeing/hearing Trump being mad at Pence, and not knowing the reason why.

I followed many of the press pieces on how the election could be overturned and they got pretty close to the plan they laid out. I do seem to remember comparisons between 2020 and the 1876 U.S. Presidential Election as a historical precedent. The Bush v Gore case with the Supreme Court deciding the 2000 US election was another precedent they could have run with. The “Transition Integrity Project” was especially notable as a staged war game trying to figure out how the election and its aftermath would play out.

Trump 2024

Given my own general threshold of indiscriminate rage at the political class is at an all time high and I have difficulty not imaging various forms of “torture porn” enacted on American politicians (even from here in the UK), I do sympathise. I’d prefer “Bernie 2024” though.

I'd prefer Bernie, or maybe an Andrew Yang, as well. Maybe Bernie would push for free healthcare here, and we all know what Yang proposes, which could also work.

Agreed, but Congress would obstruct it though- probably with a fair number of (corporate) democrats voting with republicans against progressive legislation. The entire American system of government is buckling under the weight of partisanship whoever gets picked to be the next president. But it would be a “nice change” to have Sanders or Yang (who would be my second preference). :D

[edit: Warren might be third, with Biden being in fourth place if I’m re-running the 2020 Democratic Primary in my head. Biden would come before Bloomberg pretty easily.]

Not to mention he deliberately undermined the democratic process and stirred almost the entire Republican party and voter base into the belief that any vote they don't win is somehow fraudulent.

Seriously, that is going to happen every time now. Look at the California recall vote, in which the Republican party put up a website calling the vote rigged and claiming statistical evidence of massive voter fraud before even a single ballot was cast.

Trump has done long-term damage to the entire democratic and electoral process of America that is going to be the standard for years to come.

Yep. The Americans will be occupied with themselves for a bit and have less time for meddling with other nations. And their excuse "bringing democracy to [invaded country]" will be met with roaring laughter.
