Probably the same for me, and I can remember being more into instrumentals even when Pop should have been a more natural interest for me when young. But I think I discovered Segovia, Jazz, and Irish Music fairly quickly, and listening to Classical music on R3. So that probably a good proportion of the music I listen to now is instrumental in some form or another.

Punk rock (especially hardcore), psychobilly, metal, post-punk, gothic rock (actual goth - not the stuff that's mislabeled as "goth"), psychedelic, dream pop, doom and alt rock.
