I happened on this 'story-lesson' ...

So, one day ...

The donkey told the tiger, "The grass is blue."
The tiger replied, "No, the grass is green ."
The discussion became heated, and the two decided to submit the issue to arbitration, so they approached the lion.

As they approached the lion on his throne, the donkey started screaming: ′′Your Highness, isn't it true that the grass is blue?"
The lion replied: "If you believe it is true, the grass is blue."
The donkey rushed forward and continued: ′′The tiger disagrees with me, contradicts me and annoys me. Please punish him."
The king then declared: ′′The tiger will be punished with 3 days of silence."
The donkey jumped with joy and went on his way, content and repeating ′′The grass is blue, the grass is blue..."

The tiger asked the lion, "Your Majesty, why have you punished me, after all, the grass is green?"
The lion replied, ′′You've known and seen the grass is green."
The tiger asked, ′′So why do you punish me?"
The lion replied, "That has nothing to do with the question of whether the grass is blue or green. The punishment is because it is degrading for a brave, intelligent creature like you to waste time arguing with an ***, and on top of that, you came and bothered me with that question just to validate something you already knew was true!"

The biggest waste of time is arguing with the fool and fanatic who doesn't care about truth or reality, but only the victory of his beliefs and illusions. Never waste time on discussions that make no sense. There are people who, for all the evidence presented to them, do not have the ability to understand. Others who are blinded by ego, hatred and resentment, and the only thing that they want is to be right even if they aren’t.
When IGNORANCE SCREAMS, intelligence moves on.

A golden rule for times like these.

Unfortunately, most of the chess-playing-pigeons truly and utterly believe that they are correct. And much more dangerously, they include politicians who decide how we will respond to challenges that either 1.) they don’t believe in, or 2.) they believe are there when in fact there is nothing. :(

I can say it shorter: Don't feed the trolls.

But sometimes I'm not debating with my interlocutor but for the audience. Sometimes fake news has to be countered independent of whether I can convince the donkey or not.

It's OK as long as donkeys don't vote for representatives who make polices based on grass being blue, and this has problematic outcomes for the future. So debate is crucial.

And yet, if the Donkey is colorblind to where the grass is blue (or violet, as some see it), no amount of fact, science, or display will ever change the fact that to them, the grass is blue. (Or violet)

What is interesting is that they will read this little story and immediately presume it's about someone else. As you say, this kind of willfully enforced ignorance is blinding, and self-affirming.

Or if for example a lion claimed that the frosting on this donut was pink.

When the color pink doesn't actually exist.

As a single frequency it does not exist. Our ears can hear a chord. It is not a single note. And pink is not just one color of light. It is a pleasant "chord" that our eyes can see.

It is an interpretation of reality provided by a subconscious process.
The point being, what we consciously experience may not be actual reality.

"Purple" as well doesn't exist; it's all varying hues of violet and indigo.

I think that is where I don't argue without the assumption of taking the tiger position. How can one judge what another has claimed to have experienced?

While what we personally experience is usually grounded in reality, this is not always the case.

It's interesting that both donkeys and tigers will read this and think they are tigers.

Self-awareness isn't universal.
Exactly. I think the real lesson, here, is in asking ourselves if we really are the tigers that we think we are. Because it's the tiger that will ask, the donkey will not.

Well, that's just the thing; all of reality is perception. The Fact is that a majority of people perceive the frequency of light that grass reflects as the color we call "green". The Reality is that this isn't true for everyone, and some people perceive it as violet, and who knows how other animals perceive that frequency. "Green" isn't the Reality, just the majority perception.
