Happy Janmashtami, Jai. Wife keeps a whole-day fast, we will get the goodies after the midnight puja is over.
Panjiri: Panjiri - Google Search
But this is Punjabi Panjiri. We prepare that too. But the Kashmiri variety is kept fluid. Five types of seeds, dry fruits fried in ghee (clarified butter) and put in sugar syrup. Apart from that Milk pudding (kheer) with lotus seeds, and Guava-Banana 'chaat'. "Hathi Ghoda Palki, Jai Kanhaiyya lal ki". The younger one, now 9, sounded the conch shell and announced the arrival of 'Little Krishna' (Bal Gopal, Laddoo Gopal, UnniKrishnan - South India). Portions of the 'panjiri' will be sent to the relatives.
Panjiri is considered very nutritive and is given to expectant mothers. Not just given, but they are forced to have it even if they do not like it.

That looks so good. I think I actually missed it…. again. According to my temple calendar the birth was midnight last night. The fast broken today.

Subha Janmastami. :)

Krishna was a subtle combination of mental equanimity and exuberance which was manifest in his life activities.

Hopefully, we can imbibe this trait within us too.

If you missed anything, Krishna does not care about it. He still wants to play with you. :D

And, play He does. His sense of humor rivals mine But wait... that’s who I learned from. :D I love jokes, practical jokes, pranks, mischief that is innocent and playful, like His... never mean or malicious. Someday I’m going to learn to play a bansuri. I’d have the two best teachers in the universe... Sri Krishna and Maa Saraswati. She’s already working with me on my guitar playing. :)
