Should we ban space weapons to stop the huge space junk problem

We Never Know

Thoughts????

"The growing space junk problem could get worse with anti-satellite weapons.

Today, Earth’s orbit has an estimated 18,000 traceable space debris, including those larger than tennis balls. The largest group of these are the debris of the exploding rocket left to drift around our planet. However, close to second place are more than 3,000 debris left in the anti-satellite weapons test. Currently, a group of experts is calling for a ban on such tests in order to track down the problem before it has disastrous consequences"

Well, that is one reason...

Given that China uses their space weapons to destroy
satellites in full knowledge that this exacerbates the
problem, I suspect that any ban would be unilateral.
This would pose a national security problem.
So no ban on weapons.

Years ago I read that when President Johnson was Senator he said who ever has the ultimate position has the ultimate power.
In other words, whoever can control outer space can control or govern over the Earth.
Hence, the so-called ' space race '.
One thing man as overlooked is that the One who has the Ultimate Position and Ultimate Power is: God.
For God will bring to ruin those ruining the Earth according to Revelation 11:18 B.
Through Christ, his 'sword-like executional words' will rid the Earth of the wicked - Isaiah 11:3-4; Revelation 19:14-15
As the old adage goes: it is darkest before the dawn.
So, it will be darkest before the millennial dawning of calendar Day One of Jesus' coming 1,000 year reign over Earth.

In my opinion we will wait until it gets way worse before we do anything.
Is it ' before' we do anything or 'too late' to do anything___________
To me it is No wonder that the Bible speaks of divine involvement into mankind's affairs as the actual solution.
Jesus, as King of God's Kingdom - Daniel 2:44, will be the one who will usher in global Peace on Earth.

If it was possible and everyone would agree then Yes. The only weapons that ought to be in space are those designed to protect us from meteors etc.

But at this point, I think humans are simply to stupid to know how to live in peace. I wonder how long it will take from after we land on Mars until they get weapons there? Or maybe they will bring them on the first mission, so the astronauts can defend themselves against each other, isn't that what many Americans think is the way forward? :)

Do you really think Americans who are part of the space industry actually think that way?

I think most people are unaware of the semi permanent nature of space debris. We imagine it can be cleaned up Many of us might think: "Just put some magnetic snot up there or a big net to catch all the debris."

Much like our plastic pollution problem, of the oceans and the air, we seem (as a species) incapable of orderly progress so as to not cause such problems in the first place but rather attempt to deal with them only when they become too problematic or tiresome. But perhaps technology will come to the rescue.

Like the way fossil fuels helped save whales from extinction? It may be that tech will end pollution but is not guaranteed.

Well I'm not optimistic as to such, and it will probably get even worse, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we might find some solutions, and possibly coming from AI, but then that itself might cause more problems.

No point.
The USA has not signed the Geneva Convention yet.
