John 14:6

An important controversy in Christianity is the interpretation of whether or not Jesus made exclusive claims where He envisaged no one could come to God except through Him, or whether a biblical theology should allow for the validity of other religions. An important verse used by Christian exclusivists to justify their theology is John 14:6 where Jesus speaks to His Disciples:

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

What is the best way to understand John 14:6 and why?

Jesus was speaking prophetically and Literally when He said...."no man comes to the Father, but by me".

Paul said...>"Jesus loved me and gave Himself for me".

John 3:16 explains the offer regarding what Christ has accomplished on the Cross.

Jesus Died on the Cross, to fulfill all of that...

So we can agree all souls, regardless of their affiliated religious institution, have the potential to realize Heaven, be as loyal as you like to your Church, God blessings go with you..

ben d you jump to conclusion..
The Thief on the cross was NOT baptized he died before Pentecost! He ended up in "Paradise"! YES...

ben d
yes Paradise is in heaven it is a GARDEN not the throne room!
Rev 2:7 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

He (The Good Thief) was NOT "Immersed" into the Holy Body of Jesus" he was NOT God' child, he can not enter the Throne room, he has NO inheritance! ONLY...
only children of God can enter the throne room!
Think... The Queen of England has over 80 million subjects but only her children can enter her throne room only they have an inheritance!
Same with "John the Baptist" he also died before Pentecost he was NOT Baptized by the Bride, He was NOT IMMEWRSED into the living forever body of Jesus!

Matthew 11:11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
ben d John was ONLY born but NOT re-Born! He was born of woman NOT re-Born by the Holy Bride! He died before Pentecost! John was NOT immersed into the can't die body of Jesus he is NOT a child of God!

I believe it will be Jesus. Mat. 24:3 As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming...
I don't believe it will be Jesus because Jesus said He was no more in the world and He finished the work God gave Him to do.

John 14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

John 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

John 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

.
Trailblazer, "It is finished" is Jesus is telling us "The Passover Meal is finished"! The unblemished Lamb was slain now all we need do is Eat the Passover Lamb!

1 Corinthians 5:7 Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.

It is simple logic friend Dogknox20. Heaven is a spiritual reality, not a physical, all souls who have "been born again", ie., born of the spirit, will naturally continue to exist on the death of their physical body, those who are not yet a spiritual being at physical death can not exist in the Heavenly spiritual reality. This is Judgement.

ben d To be re-Born you must be baptized! Must be IMMERSED into the living body of Jesus by the waters of Baptism!
Heaven is spiritual Earth is physical.. Man has both spiritual and physical he must deal with both! Jesus physically rose up into heaven he ascended as a Physical Man!
And Jesus walked through a door to see the Apostles.. He ate, he had flesh and his wounds could be touched! Her walked with his disciples explaining the scriptures he disappeared as he broke bread! Jesus is Both and we also will be both!

It is possible for a Heavenly being to manifest a physical perceptible form, but it would only be temporary and for some important purpose. And of course no physical entity or form could ever be in Heavenly space. " No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us." 1 John 4:12 When God's love is perfected in us, we are born again, ie, born of spirit, and our physical body will be dropped soon after.

1 Corintians 2:9 But as it has been written: "What no eye has seen, and no ear has heard, and has not entered into heart of man, what God has prepared for those loving Him."

John 3:13 And no man has gone up to Heaven except he who went down from Heaven: The Son of Man - he who is in Heaven.

So where do those souls who are not yet spiritual beings exist after physical death?
Because that soul has not been born again as a spiritual being, yet it is constituted of spirit, it abides in Heavenly space in a state of hibernation, until reincarnation.

Here are some more biblical quotes that imply the physical do not exist in Heaven.

1 Corinthian 15:12 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

1 Corinthians 15:50 Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

I have no dispute about being born of the "water and" spirit, my point is that man can not enter Heaven, only a spiritual body can enter Heaven. Man has a temporary physical body whose purpose is to give the opportunity of the soul to attain to a Heavenly existence, rather than continue its focus 'downwards' into the physical world after fulfilling the needs of physical existence.

26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!

While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

The Resurrection Body
1 Corinthians 15:35 But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?” 36 How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37 When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38 But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. 39 Not all flesh is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40 There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41 The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.

42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.

If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man.

50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

55 “Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Everything above is correct, first, it is sown the natural body, then it is raised a spiritual body. 1 Corinthians 15:44

Once the natural body is raised, it is no longer the natural body, it is a spiritual body.
Once the perishable body is clothed with the imperishable, it is no longer a perishable body.
Once the second man who is of heaven exists, it is no longer the first man of dust.
Once the mortal man becomes the immortal man, it is no longer mortal.

You see death get swallowed up in victory. The earthly man becomes the heavenly man,

Jesus has opened the door to heaven for the perishable man through his dying on the cross for the sins of the mortal man. Jesus does not need to die on the cross again as a mortal man, nor does the soul who has become immortal return to be a mortal physical man.

Jesus lived as a physical man, but was raised to heaven.

Tell me, given the distinctions referred to above, why do you think spiritual beings are100% physical beings?

I reply... Demons are spirit.. Angels are spirit... Jesus the God Man is both! A spirit is spirit.. they want to be both! They WANT to be physical!
Demons take over a body, they are driven out, they would rather go into Pigs just let them stay in a body! When a demon is driven out it goes out searching for another... It will come back with others IF.. the person does not improve themselves!
A physical body is like a house.. to a spirit!
43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order.

Of course humans have a spirit, they have the spirit of God that made them into a living soul, but that spirit needs to learn to stop sinning and realize its divine heritage which is to be born again into spiritual perfection of Heaven. Think of a school, you have finally graduated, why would you consider it reasonable to be both a graduate and a schoolkid at the same time? Once the soul has realized Heaven, it is perfect, it needs not to repeat life's experiences that are essential to the perfecting process.
