Long story short, in France the vaccine is not supposed to be mandatory, but they made it impossible for people to have a life without it. so much for choice...

Well yes. But I’m not sure statistics necessarily give the full picture.

It’s the pass sanitaire itself, rather than the vaccine policy, which seems to be causing resentment in some quarters.

Visceral distrust of authority is sometimes considered part of the French National character, if such a thing can be said to exist at all.

I can assure you there is very little resentment. Maybe the far right anti vaxxers are peeved because they can no longer go to the bar.

I feel you are probably getting your info from sources like the mail, the express, the bbc and sky. All known for biased reporting against france/europe.

The SF Bay Area health agencies got together to be consistent. In short wear a mask indoors with very limited exceptions such as when a dentist is working on your teeth. First responders and other medical personnel are required to get vaccinated.

Our Covid numbers have been stable for the past two weeks, hospitals are crowded but not overwhelmed, vaccination statistics are at 77.5% full & 84.6% partially as of today and the disparity between those vaccinated & not who are getting sick is growing.

Also of note, 8 cities are over 90% full vaccinated and 12 are over 90% in first shot out of 21 total. The wealthier cities are the most vaccinated.

A screenshot from my TousAntiCovid app which can inform me if i have been in recent contact with someone diagnosed with covid. It also is a handy wallet for a digital version of my pass sanitaire and provides updates and on vaccination and hospital occupancy.

I’m getting my ‘info’ from my partner’s family and friends in Normandy and L’Ardeche. Certainly not the Mail etc. And none of these people are remotely right wing, I can assure you.

How odd.

I have a friend comes from there. Still has family in Normandy. He would tell us if there were problems up there

Problems? Like trouble at t’mill? That isn’t what I said.

Do you think the pass sanitaire is a universally popular measure in France?

Nothing is universally popular, however, i have seen no opposition although i have heard of (literally) small protests in bigger cities, like Paris and Leon. Locally people see the need and are grateful that the chances of someone carrying covid into an event is much reduced.

I can't imagine.

I don't know too much of politics but I Think it's mostly the states that can make the rules and not so much the president. I'm glad I'm not in NY though. Probably just as much as France.

All medical staff and teachers required here. Some of our front desk people are throwing a tantrum about it. Religious exemption or they walk.

How is it impossible for someone to have a life without it? From what I've read, the health pass can be had if someone has a negative COVID test even if they're not vaccinated.

The health pass is generated in a QR code either by a full course of vaccinations, a recent negative virus test or a recovery from Covid-19. The government has allowed for a one-week grace period for consumers and businesses to comply with the new rules.

France expands locales requiring a Covid-19 'health pass'

Is the link inaccurate? If not, I'm interested to know why you think it's impossible for someone to have a life without getting vaccinated per the new health pass. It seems to me that getting a COVID test is doable, but I don't live in France, hence my question. Maybe I'm missing some detail here or there.

It's just that going by the information I've read in sources like the above, the inconvenience of having to get a COVID test before going into a packed, enclosed space pales in comparison to the benefit of reducing deaths and hospitalizations from COVID.

Pretty much the same here, although there are several bills in the legislature to ban any vaccine mandates: Ohio bill would outlaw all employer vaccine mandates. Here’s what both sides are saying about it

What would you do if your respective states mandated vaccines for, say, access to indoor spaces or if your employers mandated them? With the increasing reach of such mandates, it doesn't seem out of the question for that to happen, so I'm wondering how people who refuse the vaccines would deal with that.

Me personally I don't work in government facilities so in that sense that doesn't affect me. I see doctors virtually and when I go to my every ten year surgery I'd probably just be tested since it's every ten years. Of course going to the grocery store would be an issue IF they did public mandates. So far I know it hasn't been discussed but I wouldn't put that pass Biden now that he's begging people to vaccinate by throwing everything in the book.

I don't know how unvaxxed will deal with it (exempt and non-exempt). It's no longer a health issue if people are more focused on the "refusal" rather than the health of people vaccinated or not.

It doesn't affect me other than what I mentioned. But no one really cares about people who aren't dying, so what can I say?

This is Ohio, not New York or California. That won't fly here. We got rid of mask mandates in June and those aren't coming back, either. As for my employer, we're unionized, so I doubt they're going to be mandating it.

Do unions prohibit vaccine mandates for employees? I have no idea how that works where you live.

Also, how is your state dealing with COVID without mask or vaccine mandates?
