True. What I said is also implausible. :) Just like believing in Unicorns today with no proof.
...not really, for there are many people who don't have the faculties or capacity to be extra intelligent or scientific, but they can still add 1 + 1. But, yes, unicorns is a good example, that would be a psychosis. Flat-Earthers are verging on it, and KJV Onlyists also - you have to question their state of mind. And, again, if God does not exist, the theists are demented.

This is too hypothetical though, because Christians can be beyond intelligent, astute and erudite. Therefore, eliminating the accusation of suffering from a psychosis, and underscoring the plausibility of their claims. There is a God, it's axiomatic.

Not all beliefs in things that are unreal are psychosis. sheesh.

You keep arguing with me ROFL. You are simply mistaken in saying that religious beliefs are considered psychoses. I've gone out of my way to try to explain to you the difference, but you insist on misusing the word Psychosis. I'm not going to keep repeating myself, friend.
You're incredibly wrong about your understanding. Either believing in a fallacy, or acting upon it, does not change one mental state to the other - I haven't got a clue as to how you made that induction? If one believes that either Leprechauns or unicorns exist with no viable tangible evidence, and all evidence points to the fact that they don't and can't exist, what difference does it make if he now believes that they're talking to him with no tangible evidence. In both cases his receptors are out of whack.

And, it is I who keeps repeating myself, IT'S NOT THE FLIPPIN' POINT, if there is no God, then theists are mentally unsound. You are not appreciating the implications of that notion.
This is extremely hypothetical which is probably why you are not grasping the point. The only reason that humans can conceive of God, is because He exists, and that we are created in His image. No other creature on earth has that capacity, and it is not intellect that makes that distinction, for animals have intellect also, but they do not have a spiritual dimension to their constitution.

I don't understand what you mean?
You said "and that we are created in His image. No other creature on earth has that capacity"

I spent the first half of my career years as a teacher, and the second half as a professional counselor. And I'm tellingyou, you are NOT using teh terms delusion and psychosis correctly.

but hey, what do I know. I only went to school for years and years to study this stuff.

No, God is not on earth in human form, but He did make man in His image (man's a spiritual being). Isn't that a common Biblical understanding?

Genesis 1:26-27
1:26. Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." 27. God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Genesis 9:6-6
9:6. "Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man.

James 3:9-9
3:9. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God;

Colossians 3:9-10
3:9. Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, 10. and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him--

ok, terminology aside, are you saying that if there was no God, man's belief in Him would not be considered abnormal or mentally unstable?

All of that is not relevant DNB. Bottomline is, theists can be intelligent. Thus, if someone claims they are stupid by nature of being a theist, its implausible.

If there is no god, it doesn't mean belief in him is mentally unstable. Just like people can believe in leprechauns and be perfectly sane. Am I getting through to you yet?

I would say that most of the psychiatrists I've personally known have been atheists, and they do not consider religious people to be psychotic or delusional.

I think you need to stop diagnosing people without a license.

I don't think that you understand at all what you're talking about.
Would you marry or hire someone who believed that Leprechauns exist? What if someone over 20 that you knew well and cared for, claimed that they believe in Santa Claus, would you not suggest psychiatric treatment for them?

I do know what I'm talking about -- I'm a professional counselor. This is my field. You need to stop diagnosing people.

If I lived in old Ireland, when pretty much everyone believed in leprechauns, I probably would have married someone who believed in them. I probably would have believed in them myself. And it wouldn't have made me psychotic or delusional.

It is obvious that you are not going to be persuaded, and I'm just repeating myself. Let's move on.

Ok, yes, you do know what you're talking about, ....but, I don't think that you do know what I'm talking about.... No one will be considered sound today, in North America, over 20 years of age, if they believed in either Santa Clause, or leprechauns. You would have them committed.

Like you said, let's move on...

In places where believing i part of the culture, you cannot say that it's odd, psychotic, delusional, etc. 87% of the US population answered YES to the question, Do you believe in God, in 2017. For that matter, up to 33% of the Irish still believe in leprechauns. So stop it.

Yeah, there is a huge cultural impetus to believe in certain things; and all the reinforcement that comes with it. It’s not the same as being insane.
