Never drink with middle-aged women. They seem to hit 50 and all of a sudden develop a heroic capacity.

But you're in Scotland, aren't you? My experience of Scots is they have no "off" switch, when it comes to booze. (For a while I went out with a Scottish nurse, when I was in Dubai. She was fun, but......). So I'm not convinced it's just the middle-aged women.
