Hmmm.

Would it improve the situation if we just said there was no evidence at all to be found that there had ever been any contact?
No other evidence, you mean... right?

I'd say that the mere fact that these aliens believe in Jesus is itself evidence that there was likely prior contact between us and them.

(Or that we were likely both contacted by some other alien civilization)

Haha. Ok, dude.

There is an alien race that doesn't have advanced technology. An Earthling ship lands on their planet and is surprised to find said alien race and also that they think Jesus rocks. There's no record of any contact between the two peoples - humans have never been here before and they've never left their planet. Neither has any record of contact with an alien race previously.

Any better? :D

In that case, I'd say that the most likely explanation for the shared belief is still contact from some other set of aliens, but the contact didn't get recorded (or the records of the contact were lost over time).

BTW: in this scenario, what do these aliens believe about Jesus? Do they think Jesus is a human, too (presumably the only human they've ever seen) or did he have the form of their species? Do they believe the whole Gospel narrative that we know ("Mount of Olives? Feed my lambs? I don't know what an olive or a lamb is, but I'll go with it") or do they have their own separate set of beliefs about Jesus's teachings?

Ok, that could be the most likely. It doesn't raise your expectation at all the God exists?

What would they have to believe for you to be quite happy that it's Jesus?

No; it decreases it.

If intelligent aliens exist, then the odds that God is needed to explain anything at all drops dramatically.

For starters, can you tell me what you mean by "Jesus"? Are we talking about this alien species believing in a human male with a beard, or are we talking about a shapeshifter that's appeared to us in human form and to them in alien form?
