Revising a decision made just two months ago, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Tuesday that people vaccinated against the coronavirus should resume wearing masks in public indoor spaces in parts of the country where the virus is surging.

C.D.C. officials also recommended universal masking for teachers, staff, students and visitors in schools, regardless of vaccination status and community transmission of the virus. With additional precautions, schools nonetheless should return to in-person learning in the fall, according to agency officials.

The recommendations are another baleful twist in the course of America’s pandemic, a war-weary concession that the virus is outstripping vaccination efforts. The agency’s move follows rising case counts in states like Florida and Missouri, as well as growing reports of breakthrough infections of the more contagious Delta variant among people who are fully immunized.

“The Delta variant is showing every day its willingness to outsmart us,” Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the C.D.C., said at a news briefing on Tuesday.

Data from several states and other countries show that the variant behaves differently from previous versions of the coronavirus, she added: “This new science is worrisome and unfortunately warrants an update to our recommendation.”

One of the most wonderful things about peer-reviewed science is its self-correction and continual revision based on new evidence and data. The arrogant and misinformed may be prone to clinging to rigid views despite evidence to the contrary, while the responsible and informed are always open to revising and improving their views.

Besides me, has anybody even considered the environmental impact of masks being worn by mRNA vaccinated persons? Does the benefit of a person with near certain immunity against C.O.V.I.D.-19 wearing a mask outweigh the pollution that masks may cause?

Compare littering to getting sick?

We should remind people not to litter.

And it's not "near certain" if several months have elapsed as applies to me personally. Israeli, UK data offer mixed signals on vaccine’s potency against Delta strain

I don't know how it works in the US, but I re-use my masks.

The idea I think is to resume mask wearing in areas where the vaccination rates are low. Those are the areas where the virus is surging. So your question is not really applicable to the situation.

I fail to realize how surging cases is relevant to the fact of me being very well immune against the SARS-CoV2 virus even when I'm mask-less, as such I'm going to save some of our Earth's precious resources and conserve waste disposal space and material by me not wearing a mask.

Who didn’t see this coming? Biden has been pushing for this all along.

Earlier during this pandemic before I was mRNA vaccinated, I wore N-95 masks or I double masked with surgical masks, I didn't wear cloth masks because I understood them to be less effective at preventing infections by the SARS-Cov2 virus. That being stated, I'm guessing cloth masks would still requiring washing, which consumes energy and water. I like using as little energy as possible in order to save our fragile mother Earth's precious resources.

There's no way of telling if it's delta or not without first sequencing to identify the virus.

I'm not sure what you mean. If trusting the scientific method and the reliability of peer review is "drinking the Kool-Aid," then I'm happy to do that. I see no reasonable or reliable alternative to answer questions about topics such as medicine and the functions of the human body.

Consider this first, study up where the doctors get their pay from. Who's their employer? Who funds them?

I don't think you will find any independent doctors around, and the question itself gets pretty apparent as the answer in its own right becomes self explanatory..

For the most part they seem to be biodegradable.

I mean that you claim to be following the science but I am questioning whether you really are. It appears that you are rather following what you are being told is the science by those that want you to “drink the kool aid”.

How so? What, in your view, would constitute following science rather than what you seem to claim is an inaccurate version of it?

The more prescient question is what have you seen that you think constitute the peer reviewed scientific evidence you say you have considered?
