Scary True Stories

I like listening to scary true stories on YouTube; most pulled from Reddit.

I'm wondering if any of you have any scary/creepy/weird encounters you'd like to share?

No need to be too personal, of course.

I remember freaking out when a swarm of bees entered my dorm room a couple of years ago. Luckily, I didn't lose my head completely, and I managed to figure out a way to get them out.

Katie, the ghost at my old house, used to open the doors for me when I was carrying laundry, and turn the TV on for the baby when I'd put him in his high chair for lunch. Other guests would comment things about seeing a woman in the basement, with one person saying they were shook awake by a woman when their alarm didn't go off(for a shot period, we had a bed in the basement for guests).

My husband was scared of her, though. He yelled one day when she turned on the TV(like she always did) at lunch time, and then she stopped. And then I yelled at him because that was very rude, and she was just trying to be helpful(and I needed the help).

My story is the usual type of story. I went to a site that's a little seedy, no it wasn't RF, RF is like gold by comparison... but anyway, I started talking to this person, and some suspicious things happened and they said some suspicious things, like asking me to give them money in the form of gift cards. Later I did some Google searches and while I didn't find anything on them, they seemed to be affiliated with some other suspicious people, the type you wouldn't want to hang out with. So I told other people what was going on, in case anything happened - I mean, it's better to let people know sometimes - and I blocked all communication with them.

I once was sitting in a car with my aunt. A white van drove past us. I and everyone else in the car heard screaming from the van. No license plate tho. Clearly a woman early 20s. Possible sex trafficking.

This kind of thing is scary and reminds me of something unnerving that happened to me.

I was walking home, just metres from my house, and there was a small van pulled up at the side of the road with its driver door somewhat open so it was half blocking the path. I paid it no mind, seeing there was a guy in there and figured he'd just close the door as I approached. He didn't - the door opened a little more instead and I felt really jolted by this. I kept intently walking, til I would basically walk into the door, and he finally pulled it shut. I figured if he had some dodgy intentions, he'd want to know where I live (I'm a common sight walking up and down there, so it's very likely he'd seen me before) and I thought, the minute I go inside and close the door, he's going to drive past.

Well, he did.

Edit: this happened when I was about 21-22.

I have a story passed down to me from another.

A family member was out in the wilderness. He's the type that's a little superstitious, but I believe he did encounter something. He kind of got lost and went to this one area. He claims that there were a lot of cars there, out in the middle of nowhere, that the place looked weird, and that he got a bad feeling. He concluded that this place being suspicious and out in the middle of nowhere, it could have been some type of cult practicing worship. He got spooked and quickly tried to start his car. He had engine problems just then. So he finally got it fixed and, according to him, sped out of there.

Of course, it's hard to tell the reality of the situation. I do believe he did encounter something - but he's also the type that'd confuse the flying spaghetti monster with theistic Satanism.

Not scary but it should have been a scary ghost story, instead it's a story of great loss.

I have a friend who is an actor. He was offered a job on one episode of one of the ghost hunt type programs. Being a passionate believer in ghosts but never having seen one he jumped at the job.

He arrived on site, a castle with a haunted reputation. He picked up his script and settled down in a quiet corner read it through.

When he got to the part where the ghost was scripted to glide along a corridor and he was to whisper, "can you see that" he put down the script, walked back to his car and drove away. Completely delusioned, and upset that his passion was stolen from him by a scripted ghost

A few friends and me, about two years before it's release, went on a quest much like in the movie Stand By Me. We had similar instances, we even squared off with some hoodlums. Towards the end of our quest we ran into the decomposing corpse of a homeless man. Turned out that he'd lost his leg to a train and died shortly after. I had a panic attack the first time I watched Stand By Me. I've only seen the movie twice. It was still hard to get through it a second time.

I was walking through the woods late one night, pitch dark and dead quiet, not another human being within a quarter mile probably, when all of a sudden I heard this deep, ominous voice right behind me, chanting some demonic sounding gibberish.

It sounded exactly like the kind of voice they use in movies when someone's demon possessed.

(Something like this) :

I kept turning around but no matter what I did it was always right behind me, just over my shoulder.

Now I knew what they mean when they say, "My blood ran cold". Every hair on my body stood straight up. I would bet my goosebumps had goosebumps.

After saying a couple of short, desperate, and probably whiny prayers, I took my backpack off so I could move faster, or maybe use it as a weapon (I don't exactly remember).

That's when I realized the voice was coming out of my backpack.

Turns out it was the mini voice recorder I used for recording lectures in class. It had somehow set itself to slow speed and turned itself on in my pack.

Turns out it wasn't the devil after all, it was just my Native American studies professor (who was only the devil if he didn't like you).

@Quagmire - I may have a similar story. I was playing a horror video game. Horror video games can do kind of weird tricks on the mind. For example, if someone tapped you on the shoulder, you might not jump. But if someone taps you on the shoulder while watching a horror movie, you may be more prone to jump. Any ways, something spooky, but explainable, did happen...

I turned off my game. Then I still heard horror sounds coming through my computer speakers. I then wondered what on Earth was going on. It turned out the sound had glitched on my PC, or the app had, and the app still played sound from the game for 10 seconds after the app closed and I no longer saw it on screen.

This is what happened:
So I was talking on the phone with a fellow witch she told me to hold on a minute. Next then I hear is gibberish like a male's voice saying stuff but I couldnt make it out. It made me nervous. When she got back on the phone I asked if the tv or radio or something was on cuz I heard something speaking. She said no but her little girl was on the tablet. I relaxed. Next thing I know my friend pauses and shouts You are not welcomed here. I froze. I said um is everything alright? Her: "you might've heard a something after all my daughter just stood up pointed and said He needs to go away. He looks scary. And like it just felt negative as hell in here"

I think you can call this one a weird encounter. One overcast afternoon, I was walking home from my local library and I passed a man who was walking the opposite direction on the sidewalk. He was of the same height and build as an old family friend who lived behind us and he looked just like him too. We made eye contact and nodded as we silently passed each other. Not long after that moment, I heard from my father that that old family friend had been killed in an armed robbery months before. It makes me wonder if what I saw was his ghost.

Additionally, not long after hearing the tragic news, I looked out the backdoor window one evening at the house where the young man lived. I saw in their backyard a grey figure walking until it vanished into thin air.

I have just remembered something else in the way of weird encounters. Several years ago, my mother started seeing these random young men of medium height in the house. She says they have blond hair, fair skin, and they wear outfits that consist of orange shirts, beige trousers, and what she calls "hush puppy shoes." Every time she sees one and he knows he has been spotted, he runs toward a wall and vanishes. My father has seen a couple of them as well. Another thing the three of us have seen are doppelgangers. My parents both saw "me" one time taking something out to the garage and "I" never came back inside the house. One time, I saw "my father" walking quickly from one room out into the garage. Seconds later, I turned and saw my father in another room. Weird stuff.

My parents bought the house I grew up in shortly before I was born. The man that had lived(and died) in the house before was a preacher/priest/reverend/some Christian authority that I don't have the proper name for. He's been seen by different people... folks report a tall thin man in some kind of religious garb(and seeming none too friendly) around the house. My husband got startled by him one day(not knowing the house's history) and won't go in that house alone anymore.

My mom and my dad had gotten along reasonably before moving into that house. Neither was religious. About the time I was born, Dad changed. All the sudden he became obsessive over Christianity, particularly concerned with the book of Revelations and people going to Hell. He stayed this route through my childhood(thankfully backing off it as we all grew up and moved out). My parent's marriage fell apart.

There's been some speculation whether this entity was influencing Dad's thoughts or feelings... Maybe not. It was just all very strange.

I lived in one particular house that kind of had a ghost, I think. Multiple people had heard a woman's voice, but seemingly at random times, call things out like people's names in the house. I only saw one incident of this, myself. However, I've been a little ESP sensitive throughout my life, or past a certain age. Whenever I went back to the room with the washer and the dryer, I would seem to have mental congestion and anxiety attacks, despite no one else in the house having a problem. It made me fear that room to death, and even my mom noted that I avoided it.

Honestly, my life is filled with ghost stories. There once was a website created by people of my hometown, for people of my hometown to report ghost stories. That site got flooded with stories. Also, here's the stranger thing... though my town does have its ghost stories, another town 100-150 miles away, doesn't really have ghost stories, but it has a lot of caves and stuff, and for some reason, the people there swear that they've seen UFOs and weird lights at night in the sky.
