In a recent thread there have been claims that over the past five or six years millions of people have been starving and dying in Yemen because of the United States. Does anyone know if this is true?

The US has been supplying arms to Saudi Arabia which has used them in Yemen. That might be the basis of what you've heard.

Only reason I’m asking people here is because claims were made that the USA is a puppet country who lies to its people about Yemen

USA a puppet? Hardly

The US may still be helping Saudi Arabia in the Yemen war after all

In February, President Joe Biden announced that he was ending America’s “offensive” support for Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen, six years into the conflict that has killed around 230,000 people and triggered the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

The US was supplying Saudi with military aid to help fight the Houthi rebels.

I believe Biden has pulled the plug

I am not one who believe so :) America may have done some stupid things in the past, but they are not the cause of every bad thing that happens to the muslim world :)

It’s probably a good thing that he pulled the plug, well hopefully anyway. I’m not much of a political slob. I wonder if there was no intervention 6 yrs ago if things would have been worse or better. Gee

I think a lot of people were bothered when Saudi Arabia used a US missile we had supplied them to blow up a Yemeni school bus full of children. When this came to light, it offended American sensibilities.

The Houthi fighters are backed by Iran, and so the US sees them as a proxy military force that is being used by Iran to expand its influence in the region. In response, the US decided to back Saudi fighters with our own funding and weapons. This sort of war is called a proxy war, where larger geopolitical actors can prop up third parties to fight against each other when it is impractical for the larger actors to directly fight each other.

Unfortunately, the UN estimates about a quarter million people in Yemen have died, including many civilians, with millions more displaced by the conflict. Starvation, destruction of cities and infrastructure, and widespread starvation have defined this conflict.

I wish the US could divest itself of the need to secure crude oil supplies around the world. For one, the US can supply its own entire oil requirements with domestic production, and we don't necessarily need to use oil for all the things we're using it for now.

There seems to be another reason the US is invested in the middle east, and that is due to evangelical christians believing that Israel has to be preserved and protected so that god can "purify" the Jews when the second coming happens. This, for hopefully obvious reasons, is a terrible way to determine foreign policy, especially when US actions in the middle east seem to promote terrorism against us in turn.
