I found a butterfly

VoidCat

Pronouns: he/him/they/them
Found a butterfly missing a chunk of its wing. Poor thing its gonna die. No way it'll survive like that it can't fly. I would bring it in try to care for it but I don't have the supplies and I don't know how to do that.

Any ideas on what I can do?

"The wing will never “heal”, unlike when you set a broken bone. If you find a butterfly with a piece of wing hanging loose, you can pull off that piece of wing and let the butterfly go. Otherwise, it's best to leave it be and let nature take its course."

I would either kill it to put it out of it's misery. Or leave it alone and let it become the prey it is.

Nature is oft cruel. Sadly.

I went outside just now and it's gone. Guess something came for it.

I don't know. Place the butterfly in the refrig sounds kinda cruel in itself. Not sure if it feels pain.
It does. But I was gonna look for an alternative to calm it down so I could work on it. If not well at least I might've been able to save it...what doctors do is cruel often involving pain but they save lives.

I don't think they feel pain like we do. They are 100% automated, evolving behaviors rather than learning them. We have to learn things through pain, fear and pleasure. They have no need for pain and fear as we do, so probably they don't have those experiences.

There are times when we cannot do anything. When my mother died there was nothing that could have been done. The fact that you respect life that is different than yours says much about you.

It slows them down and makes them quiescent. It causes no harm as long as they are not kept in there for very long. Their metabolism and activity are a function of ambient temperature. Moths have been known to drop out of the air when they hit a cool front and their temperatures drops rapidly.
