What is the Purpose of Human Existence?

Mister Emu writes: I think mankind's purpose in general is to become closer to God.

If I was to recognize a PURPOSE for mankind, getting involved with a REALationship with GOD is actually a worthwhile PURPOSE but I have never gotten any closer to an entity or accurately got to K(NOW) someone by reading a book.

For believers: Is our relationship to God our purpose in life, or is it more like our relationship to God is a means of revealing our purpose in life?

I think "man" is just a lab rat for "God". He put us on the planet to see what we would do, hoping that we would show him that we are worth a darn. We are about to be put to sleep.

Our relationship with the Divine helps us, i think, to better understand what our purpose is on this earth. But i think our purpose is to leave this world a little bit better than what we found it. That could be that you are to be a teacher to educate young minds, or an activist, or president, or even fulfilling the noble role of a loving parent.
But that's just my personal opinion...i could be wrong:D

"A God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in loving-kindness and truth."—Ex. 34:6.
we can be drawn to God by his qualities as shown in the bible

Sunstone- I feel that my relationship with creator is more parallel to my purpose in life.
So, it's more like a case of being in harmony with Creator than a matter of your relationship with Creator being the purpose of life?

*finger on nose* exactly! Thank you for finding a more direct way of puting that. :woohoo:
My relationship with Creator is not a direct result of my 'purpose' nor is my 'purpose' a result of my relationship with Creator. They work in harmony, 'seperate but equal' so to say.

Jehovah’s Slow To Anger Qualities

Genesis-3:17 And to Adam he said: Because you listened to your wife’s voice and took to eating from the tree concerning which I gave you the command ”You must not eat from it” cursed is the ground on your account.

Jehovah’s Graciousness

Genesis-3:14 And so he drove the man out and posted at the east of the garden of Eden the cherubs and the flaming blade of a sword that was turning itself continually to guard the way to the tree of life.

Jehovah’s Mercy

Genesis-7:20-21 Up to fifteen cubits the waters overwhelmed them and the mountains became covered. So all the flesh that was moving upon the earth expired among the flying creatures and among the domestic animals and among the wild beasts and among all the swarms that were swarming upon the earth, and all mankind.

Jehovah’s Loving Kindness

Genesis-22:2 Take please your son, your only son whom you so love, Issac, and make a trip to the land of Moriah and there offer him up as a burnt offering on one of the mountains that I shall designate to you.

And I haven’t even gotten out of the book of Genesis.

Does anybody else feel that a meaningful PURPOSE has been fulfilled by surrounding themselves with entities that display these "merciful and gracious loving qualities"?

May writes: This fear is not a morbid fear , but it is a fear of not displeasing Jehovah because i love him,the same way that you would not want to displease your loving parent because you love them. so yes God is love and i try my best to keep his commandments.
"If only they would develop this heart of theirs to fear me and to keep all my commandments always."—DEUTERONOMY 5:29.

How many exemplary parents do you K(NOW) that threaten their children with death if they do not obey them?

"Living in harmony with Jehovah’s purpose for mankind means getting to know the true God and conforming to his requirements as set out in the Holy Scriptures. If we do this now, we can entertain the hope of everlasting life on a paradise earth, in which we will never cease to learn new things about God and his wonderful creation."

Hmmm... Remember may, this was written when? Does the past matter more than the present? No, so what someone wrote long ago means less than NOW. The bible cannot tell me about now, so it has no use to me. If you have to use an ancient book to know god, or to know now, then I feel your knowledge is surely lacking. To know god without a book, to really know god. This is real knowledge. Is your purpose to know a book, or to know god? Right now you know the book pretty well. But I'm not sure about your knowledge about god.

Hi , you say, that the bible cannot tell you about now, so it has no use to you.For me, i find the bible does tell me about now, it gives me the answers as to why the world is in a bad state .It tells me that God has got an original purpose for this earth, which will be accomplished. So knowledge about God ,and his purpose is real knowledge .(John 17;3)

Whatever moves a person to inquire about the purpose of life, this question warrants a serious and satisfying answer. Once again, the Bible can be of great benefit. It identifies Jehovah as a God of purpose, one who has sound reasons for everything he does. So, Would you construct a house without having a reason? Likely not, since building a house requires a huge investment of money and can take months or years. You build a house so that you or someone else can live in it. The same logic can be applied to Jehovah. He did not go to all the trouble of creating the earth and the living things upon it without having a reason, a purpose. (Compare Hebrews 3:4.) What is his purpose for the earth?

The prophecy of Isaiah identifies Jehovah as "the true God, the Former of the earth and the Maker of it." Indeed, he is "the One who firmly established [the earth], who did not create it simply for nothing, who formed it even to be inhabited." (Isaiah 45:18) Yes, ever since the earth was created, it has been Jehovah’s purpose to have it inhabited. Says Psalm 115:16: "As regards the heavens, to Jehovah the heavens belong, but the earth he has given to the sons of men.So the Bible shows that Jehovah created the earth to be inhabited by obedient humans, who would take care of it.—Genesis 1:27, 28.

Did the rebellion of Adam and Eve cause Jehovah to change his purpose? No. How can we be so sure? Well, consider this point: The Bible was written thousands of years after the rebellion in Eden. If God had abandoned his original purpose, why is that not mentioned in the Bible? The obvious conclusion is that his purpose for the earth and mankind remains unchanged.

Jehovah’s purpose never fails. Through Isaiah, God provides this assurance: "Just as the pouring rain descends, and the snow, from the heavens and does not return to that place, unless it actually saturates the earth and makes it produce and sprout, and seed is actually given to the sower and bread to the eater, so my word that goes forth from my mouth will prove to be. It will not return to me without results, but it will certainly do that in which I have delighted, and it will have certain success in that for which I have sent it."—Isaiah 55:10, 11.
Many who search for a purpose in life turn to the Bible and find great happiness right now. many find no meaning in life, The involvement of religion in war disgusted them and they are upset at the hypocrisy and corruption in politics. However, a regular and careful examination of the Bible helps them to recognize the true purpose of life and to find contentment.

Unfortunately THE BIBLE does not tell us how to fix it. THE BIBLE tells us that we must wait for Jehovah. If you have a broken appliance that is relevant to your survival (furnace, plumbing) do you wait for Jehovah or one of his angels to fix it? Or do you call a professional repairman to come over right away to see that it is repaired? This is our world, we are the repairmen, we are the only entities that can make the difference.

GOD: Armageddon, as it is portrayed throughout many religions, is spectacular. Now it has happened again, and society realizes that Jesus is not riding down on a white stallion. People have yet to hear the triumphant blaring of trumpets declaring MY name. YOU would think they would stop hoping in this way. This is not the case, so they keep re-creating Armageddon over and over.

Carrdero: When will it stop?

GOD: It will stop when people awaken to the fact that they can bring about their own peace instead of destruction. I've given them everything they need to do this. They just have to shift their way of thinking. They waste too much time waiting for ME.

To start with, man was under divine government. But in the garden of Eden, our first parents turned their backs on that. They chose to be independent of God, wanting to rule themselves. (Genesis 3:1-5) Really, though, man was not created to rule himself. The prophet Jeremiah wrote: "I well know, O Jehovah, that to earthling man his way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step."—Jeremiah 10:23; Proverbs 20:24.

Nevertheless, since the issue of government was raised, Jehovah has patiently allowed time to resolve it. Indeed, he has generously allowed thousands of years for man to try every conceivable form of government. With what result? It has become evident that no human government can remove oppression, inequity, or other causes of unhappiness.

Indeed, in view of human history, can anyone truly say that God is unjust when he announces his intention to remove all human governments and replace them with one of his own? Surely not! I positively welcome the fulfillment of this Bible prophecy: "In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite."—Daniel 2:44.

The heavenly King of that Kingdom is the resurrected Jesus. Preparing him for that position—as well as choosing humans to be corulers with him—has taken time. During all that time, God has exercised patience.

Humans evolved to live in hunting/gathering societies, and if you want to see what sort of government is most natural to us, then you should study how those societies were governed.

I question, however, whether politics can be the meaning of life.

purpose of human existence?

listen to some good music (i reccomend creedence), learn to take yourself less seriously, form meaningful relationships with others.

seriously, i don't know. i agree with painted wolf- we should ask questions that pretain less to ultimate truths, more to individual possibilities.

"... remind me of a question thrown by a child to his mother:

- “Mum, why do you happen to be my mother?”
- “Because I gave birth to you,” the mother replied.
- “But why did you give birth to me?” The child went further.
- “Because I needed a good and pretty child like you, and God answered my prayer,” the confused mother replied.

However, the child, who would not be convinced with such simple answers, said to his mother:

- “Please mum. Just one more question! Why did you need a child?”

Responding to this, the mother snapped back:

- “I needed a child to play my role in life as a good mother, and for you to obey me. Now would you please stop this nonsense?!”
