California is spending 1 billion on homelessness, it appears to be buying up old motels and claims to offer about 2000 units for homeless, out of at least 100,000 homeless??? WTF??

Each city and county is doing their own projects. A place for homeless residents is being built around where I'm at. Bakersfield recently reported their programs are showing success, including buying up old hotels. LA does their thing, San Fransisco does their thing. And not everybody approaches the issue the same, or necessarily in a way that will work.

Maybe look at what's causing homelessness in the first place instead of attempts at patching up things afterwards?

It's like working on water pipes without proactively turning off the water first.

What kind of plumber are ya???

Yet the homeless remain. Your "solutions" are well intended but alas do not work. Neither does your government in addressing a humanitarian issue within its borders: similar to children in cages now. I'm glad I don't live there.

The biggest cause of homelessness is child neglect/abuse and mental illness. Treatment facilities for mentally ill poor people are very expensive hence the problem of homelessness.

This is accurate, but to add these treatment facilities are few and far between compared to the number of homeless. And they typically do not duel treat. ie they will help mental illness but not addiction and vice versa and the majority of these individuals need a combination of both.

Were I homeless...I might...might not but might...be tempted to turn to a life of crime. I suppose it depends on whether I'm an angry 'Wronged by society' homeless person with a lot of pride or a depressed and ashamed 'Let down by society' homeless person. I'm single, so I wouldn't be a desperate homeless person. I'd be likely to consider just disappearing into the woods or jumping into a wood chipper or something like that.

It is an excruciatingly tough life to be homeless, I do not wish it on my worst enemies. And once you get into that cycle it can be difficult to get back out.

A lot of these people turn to drugs, just to have a semblance of comfort, since they are sleeping in the rain and mud (at least here), it's the only way to get sleep.

Chillax people. Its a thread about making fun of capitalists and maybe them making fun of non-capitalists. Keep the nasty stuff in debate areas. Keep this thread friendly even if a little bit...competitively funny. Its getting too complicated to moderate. I will sit on some heads. I will. I will sit on heads. I have a stinky butt, and I will do it.

The thread has been reported and could get shut down. I don't know what will happen. Just everybody put away the guns. Lets use our brains to keep things friendly in the games'n jokes section and not get the whole section shut down...which would inevitably lead to Revoltingest leaving the forum which would be...somewhat boring. He's always threatening to leave.

I actually did try out homelessness for a couple of months, but I had a car and a storage unit. I also had some family and eventually moved in with them for a bit. Others were not so fortunate, and I saw how they lived.

It was a difficult time. I had only one music CD. Radiohead's album called "Amnesiac". I still have the ripped MP3's on my computer. Yes. I was homeless for 2 months studying Amnesiac.

The LA times says California is budgeting $200,000/unit for homeless housing, you could buy 20 motor homes or vans for that price, these are people that are happy to live in a tent, $200,000 a unit is just ridiculous waste of money that could help a lot more people for much less.
