A Challenge For Members Interested in Personal Growth

In fifty words or less, state what you think should be the objective of a striving for personal growth that is equal to or better than my entry (41 words). Serious entries (no jokes) only, please.

A strong character should be the objective of personal growth. Someone with strong character can be trusted to always do the right thing even when doing the right thing takes courage because it is unpopular, dangerous, or disobedient to an authority.

I see a basic problem with this. Everyone should do the right thing but who decides what is the right thing. Someone might think it is alright to take a gun and start shooting people. Others ays No that is not the right thing. There has to be some highger authority to decide what is right or wrong. God?

The higher authority, in fact the only moral authority we have, is the conscience of a group of people unbiased on the relevant case --- such as, but not limited to, a jury. This concept is recognized in courtrooms all over the world.

Individually, we have a conscience (moral intuition) to guide us. If the action we are considering is wrong or unfair, it will FEEL wrong or unfair.

Personal growth for the sake of personal growth...the more we learn about ourselves and grow the better we are. To grow personally is a journey. Especially if you are like me and seek to understand the dark parts of yourself you keep hidden to grow. Can make you go mad.

Edited to fit the 50 mark

You have a very high expectation of people. I am certain the guy with the gun shooting people did not FEEL it was wrong.

The OP is asking for people to come up with their own mini-manifesto in regards to personal growth, not pick apart his.

If you want to start a debate along these lines you should start your own thread in one of the debates forums.

The objective of human life is to become the best you can in what you do, no matter if it is spiritual growth or purly human growth within daily life, work, relationship. Life is to become the best version of you that you can be,

It's not a high expectation of people. Conscience is a moral GUIDE only. We can choose to follow it or not. Someone with a strong character would follow it, even when it was a difficult choice to do so.

You are on the right track. But I think that we will always remain falible and relatively untrustworthy. we are humans after all. I think courage is awesome of course, but it is something you have to build up each time you need to use it I have to fight for it, I think even the bravest of us have to as well.

Look within in an open-minded, honest, and discerning manner. Be prepared to be embarrassed. Embarrassment is a sign of repressed stuff coming into consciousness.
