I've heard too many times to count:
  • Without God, life has no meaning or purpose, and
  • Without God, there is no objective morality.
Okay, this thread is primarily aimed at those who hold those positions, but others are welcome to participate, if they'd like -- though I'd find it odd!

So, pretend that you are God, just for a moment, and complete (as God) the following three statements:
  1. "I, God, created humans for the purpose of..."
  2. "I, God, declare the following things to be objectively immoral and forbidden..."
  3. "I, God, declare the following to be objectively moral and necessary..."

Another perspective - I am Brahman (factual, no pretension).

"I, God, created humans for the purpose of...": I did not create anything. It is all 'imagination of the imagined'. Take your blame somewhere else.
"I, God, declare the following things to be objectively immoral and forbidden...: Imagine whatever you like. You imagine that I am God.
"I, God, declare the following to be objectively moral and necessary...": Now that you have a society, follow its rules or perish. Hardly concerns me.

1. ...practice. Whilst I'm pretty switched on, I'm also smart enough to realise that practice makes perfect. Humans were a little earlier on the testing run than the much more evolved platypus, but both are works in progress.

2. ...random stuff. I was admittedly vague in my rules, but how else to see what sort of moral sense my creations have? I'm after sentient beings, after all, not slaves.

3. ...empathy. you might find it ironic that I have mandated empathy, but I don't. And I'm all-powerful...or close to it. So there.

Entertainment.

(Yes, Dante got it right, it's all a Divine Comedy. But when you're eternal and alone, playing with yourself gets boring after the first few eternities.)
"I, God, declare the following things to be objectively immoral and forbidden..."
Not being entertaining.
And while I love the occasional drama, ending lives on massive scales is not funny. Also stop turning your home into a pig pen sauna. Everything that reduces or potentially reduces the number of entertaining creatures is not funny.
"I, God, declare the following to be objectively moral and necessary..."
Having fun and being funny.
And science. There is a whole galaxy to explore and create places for entertaining life to flourish. Get cracking.

If your life has purpose and meaning, and you have an objective morality (though unless everyone shares your morals, I’m not quite sure how it would be objective), does it really matter what those that believe in God think?

But for the purpose of playing along...

I, God, make no declarations on how humans’ perceive their purpose or how they interact with their perceived reality.

So, pretend that you are God, just for a moment, and complete (as God) the following three statements:

1. "I, God, created humans for the purpose of..." - testing whether I existed (mostly passed but still some doubts due to the best that I produced apparently not believing such), plus having an inferiority complex, and where having the humans around just made me feel so much better. :imp:

2. "I, God, declare the following things to be objectively immoral and forbidden..." - everything humans have created - THAT'S MY JOB! :sunglasses:

3. "I, God, declare the following to be objectively moral and necessary..." - my elimination, since I seem to be so unnecessary to so many of you puny lot! Think you can live without me? Pah! Let's just see about that! Grrrrr! :rage:

Apologies.

I always wonder when I see threads like this whether you really want genuine answers or whether you just want to jerk our chains....?

But FWIW.....I’ll play.....I really cannot speak for God, but if I could, the following would probably be somewhat speculative but close.....

“1. "I, God, created humans for the purpose of..."
...representing me on this planet as caretakers of its creatures and of the planet itself.....it is the reason why I gave you my moral attributes and love of nature. I wanted you to fulfill the mandate that I gave you to fill the world with your children and to extend the boundaries of the paradise I gave you, so that life would be enjoyable and fulfilling for all of you....a journey of education and discovery for the rest of eternity, whilst you continue to uncover the natural wonders that I have hidden away in secret places.

You are just the beginning of a much larger project, so everything must be worked out here first, before I move onto the rest of what I have planned for my vast material universe. Precedents will the be set for all time to come so that the issues that you have confronted, as a result of abusing free will, can never be raised again.

2. “I, God, declare the following things to be objectively immoral and forbidden.....anything that goes against the natural way I created everything. Things that are not truthful or honest. Anything that causes harm for others or that will offend them and me...everything that goes against what I first purposed.

Remember that you are not living the life that I planned for you at present, but I ask for your patience because once the current object lesson is concluded, all will return to the way it was meant to be at the beginning. I promise that all the pain will be worth it in the end.

3. “I, God, declare the following to be objectively moral and necessary..."

To abide by your conscience and to be loyal in your love for each other. Do no harm to anyone and remember your moral obligations to contribute to the happiness of others and the wellbeing of all the creatures who share life with you. Follow my directions because I always have your best interests at heart, so no one will guide you to happiness and fulfilment in a more understanding way than I will. All I ask is your obedience because law and order creates peace and security for all.

Or words to that effect......

The thread is legitimate. I repeat what I have said before, that theists invariably declare that without Got, life can have no real meaning and purpose, and there can be no "objective morality."

I contend that to make such declarations, you must have at least some measure of knowledge -- that can be tested -- as to what that meaning, purpose and objective morality are.

You have attempted an answer (you are the first to do so), and I appreciate it. I do not think that you can demonstrate how you come by that knowledge, and I certainly do not see that you can show how it is consistent with the reality that we live, but I don't plan to argue that with you at this time. (Unless of course you'd like to try and provide whatever evidence for provenance and consistency.)
