News Blackout in the UK

Secret Chief

I hope this thread can be used by public-spirited non-Brits to keep Brits informed of news events for the foreseeable, during our news blackout. Examples might include events in Myanmar, Northern Ireland and the Ukraine. In return, us Brits can keep the RotW up-to-date on items such as who has just left Windsor castle, how many rounds were fired in a gun salute, the latest fallout from that Oprah interview and, of course, live updates on the movement of floral tributes.

I'm about to look at the Mail Online. Wish me luck. If I'm not back by nightfall, I've probably been abducted by a commenter on the "Too much coverage" outrage. Send help.

I am so glad i watch france24 but even that has decided s disproportionate amount of air time to the most devastating news item to happen for days...

Well, the Casino del Sol Golf Classic is due to start in 5 days. Casino del Sol Golf Classic begins April 15 (kold.com)

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - The Casino del Sol Golf Classic is coming back to Tucson and it starts on Thursday, April 15. It will be the third stop of the Symetra Tour’s 2021 “Road to the LGPA”.

The Ladies Professional Golf Association is an organization of professional lady golfers with elite members from all around the world.

There will be a total of 120 players swinging their clubs at the Sewailo Golf Club at Casino del Sol up until Sunday, April 18.

“The 41st Symetra Tour season kicked off with the two strongest fields we have had in the history of the tour. Next week, we couldn’t be more excited to continue on with one of our new title sponsors Casino Del Sol,” said Mike Nichols, the Chief Business Officer of LPGA Qualifying Tours. “With their incredible support, this event is one of eight events that our members will be competing for $200,000 or more this season.”

Makes me glad I take the FT. They've given him a good obituary and printed a historical view from Simon Schama, but that's it.

But in fact there are some quite interesting bits of information about him. I hadn't realised he was from a Danish royal house (Schleswig-Holstein Sonderburg Glucksberg) that came to rule Greece (his grandfather). And of course he married into the family of Saxe-Coburg Gotha, renamed "Windsor" during the First World War, hem hem.

British as they come, really. ;)

We've been watching a lot of Lucy Worsley shows so of course we knew that.

British Royalty - entertaining the UK for hundreds of years.

Well, mainly entertaining other countries that have no monarchy, I suspect.;)

When I was in Houston, Americans were always asking me stuff about the royal family that I couldn't answer.

Australia too is the victim of too much information ....why is it that when something like this happens, the media turns it into a complete circus? Why do they saturate the news with the same things...over and over...it’s hardly a tribute to a well known identity when people want to turn off the news because it been done to death! (excuse the pun)

Let the man Rest In Peace and honor his own request.....no fuss.

The world doesn’t stop turning because a news event happens. o_O

The best way to avoid a media circus in my experience is to avoid TV news shows. Reading headlines on a few high quality news web sites with occasional reading stories makes life more bearable.

I mostly watch Channel 4 news now. The BBC is utterly cowed by government threats to abolish the licence fee, they're simply a government mouthpiece now.

A couple of today's Earth-shattering news headlines from the BBC:

"Land Rover hearse designed by Prince Philip unveiled"

"Prince Philip funeral 'a profound chance for Queen to say goodbye' "

I used to watch C4 - an excellent source. Unfortunately I was seriously traumatised by relentless Trump and Brexit, and was unable to continue viewing (plus the TV screen was at risk). My counsellor says it is not safe for me to go back yet, I would most likely be triggered by seeing Liar Johnson or one of his corrupt minions.

Ha, yeah. I have to seriously ration my news intake these days, for the sake of my peace of mind.
