Is Deuteronomy 18:18 Jesus?

In short, and to avoid getting debate-y - Judaism disagrees with the greatness attached to Jesus. At best, he was a random dude who got on the wrong side of the law, at worst, he was some sort of criminal who got on the wrong side of the law. So the answer to who is referred to in Deuteronomy is to be found elsewhere.

Joshua continued to live and lead the Israelites well after Moshe died.
That's the problem. If this Prophet was Joshua, it would not say in Deuteronomy 34:10 that there would be no prophet like Moses in Israel after his dead, because Joshua was already there. Therefore it cannot be Joshua.

There are numerous Jewish takes on this passage. I'd advise you to consult Jewish sources on this, not Christian ones that only confirm Christian biases.

Anytime somone claims Deuteronomy 18 as Jesus, they neglect Deuteronomy 13 which rejects Jesus.

Chapter 18 doesn't matter if Chapter 13 disqualifies him.

( note: in Jewish scripture, Deuteronomy 12:32 is included in Chapter 13 )

Is Deuteronomy 18:18 Jesus?
Answer: No.

Carry on.

Is Genesis 49:10 about Jesus?

The scepter shall not depart from Judah
, nor a lawgiver from between his feet,
until Shiloh come, and to him shall the people be obedient.

Is this Jesus?

Zechariah 12
“And the Lord will give salvation to the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the
glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem...and the house of David shall be like God, like the angel of the Lord,
going before them. And on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. And
I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy,
so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns
for an only child."

or is THIS Jesus?

Zechariah 9
Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
righteous and victorious,
lowly and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
I will take away the chariots from Ephraim
and the warhorses from Jerusalem,
and the battle bow will be broken.
He will proclaim peace to the nations.
His rule will extend from sea to sea

I will raise up for them a prophet from among their countrymen like you(Moses), and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them everything that I command him.

Why I believe Deuteronomy 18:18 is Jesus:

  1. Both Moses and Jesus were born when Israel was under bondage, Moses in Egypt and Jesus during the Roman bondage of Israel.
  2. Moses' first miracle was to turn water into blood(Exodus 7:20), Jesus' first miracle was to turn water into wine(John 4:46).
  3. Both had seventy helpers, Moses(Numbers 11:16), Jesus(Luke 10:1).
  4. Both fasted 40 days and 40 nights in the desert, Moses(Exodus 34:28), Jesus(Matthew 4:2).
  5. Both faces shone on the mountain, Moses(Exodus 34:29), Jesus(Matthew 17:2).
  6. Both brought a new covenant, Moses the covenant of the law and Jesus the covenant of grace, see John 1:17.
  7. Both brought salvation, Moses saved the people of Israel out of Egypt and Jesus saves people out of eternal punishment through his death on the cross.
  8. Both are children of Israel and prophets.
  9. Moses gave water from the rock, Jesus is the rock and the water.
  10. Moses brought the first Holy Priest, Jesus is the last Holy Priest.
  11. Moses brought the law, Jesus fulfilled the law.
Yes, because Jesus is the only prophet who like Moses brings a Covenant like the Covenant Moses made. Jesus' new Covenant is within the heart however fulfilling Jeremiah 31:31-34

Glad we cleared that up.

A statement of belief but no argument.
To 'clear that up' you need to forward an argument.

Jacob foresaw the rise of a Hebrew nation, UNTIL the coming of Shiloh.
Meaning of course the end of Israel. And this Shiloh would be believed
upon of all the world, not just the now-finished Israel.

Daniel spoke of the enemy coming in 'like a flood' and destroying the
altar and Jerusalem - and He to whom all things belong, but He would
die for His people.

Unless there's another temple and another destruction, I can't think of
any figure that fits those prophecies.

Your post was equally a statement of belief so I see nothing wrong with my reply.

I made a statement that I believe some of the Messianic prophecies of the Tanakh
refer to Jesus as the Redeemer of Israel. I backed these statements up.
You deny these claims, but don't back anything up.

Here, an explanation: The NT made up many fairytales about some random Jewish criminal who may or may have not lived during the 1st century CE. The End.

Edit: In case you're wondering why I don't delve further, it's because this topic has been debated a bajillion times over. You can easily find the Jewish answer both here and around the internet and I know it wouldn't convince you in any case, because the NT says otherwise.

Who then do you orthodox Jews, believe is the one who your God, who is the Christians God also, was referring to when he said to Moses; " I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put MY WORDS in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. 19 And whoever will not listen to MY WORDS that he shall speak in MY NAME I will punish?

The physical works Jesus performed did move observers to recognize Jesus as the 'prophet' Moses foretold.
- John 6:14; Deuteronomy 18:15-18
To me, Peter referring to the prophecy leaves No doubt about referring to Jesus at Acts of the Apostles 3:19-23.

It's a completely different religion called Judaism.

Not Christianity, which is a religion that had borrowed from Judaism and made up its own theology.

There is no Jesus to be found whatsoever in the Old Testament other than what fantastic association Christianity has come up with that satisfies Christian theology.

If Jews say there is no Jesus in their scripture then that's good enough for me since it's their own writings.

Why I don't believe it is about Jesus:

Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.

Yahweh raised up all these men and put words into all their mouths and they spoke everything Yahweh commanded them.

Its a vague, non specific verse that could refer to any Prophet, Jewish or non-Jewish. That’s why it means Joshua to the Jews, Jesus to the Christians, Muhammad to the Muslims and any of the above for any Baha’i that happens to take an interest.
