The failure of any mention of Melchizedek's ancestry permitted the argument that he had no father or mother. He blessed Abraham, his priesthood was accompanied by the Lord's oath, and a priest in the order of Melchizedek is eternal, (Ps 110-4). There is no longer need for numerous levitical priests who are replaced after death because Jesus who has the Melchizedek priesthood continues forever, making intercession (7:23-25).

Part of the Eucharist Prayer 1 Be pleased to look upon these offerings with a serene and kindly countenance, and to accept them, as you were pleased to accept the gifts of your servant Abel the just, the sacrifice of Abraham, our father in faith, and the offering of your high priest Melchizedek, a holy sacrifice, a spotless victim.

hebrews 7:1-21

There is one who is superior to Jesus, and that one is, 'The Father' who said to Jesus; "Sit here at my right side until I put your enemies under your feet. Melchizedek was not only the high priest, but also the King in Jerusalem, and this is the pattern. Jesus is also our High priest and will be King and ruler of the entire earth from his throne in Jerusalem for a thousand years.

Psalms 110: 4; As quoted previously by pcarl, does not say that Melchizedek would be a priest forever. In reference to Jesus, the Lord says; "You (Jesus) will be a priest forever," (King and High priest as was Melchizedek) He does not say that Melchizedek would be a priest or king forever, but 'you (Jesus) will be a priest forever,' nor does he say that Jesus would be a king forever, because Jesus must hand the throne back to the Lord, after the Lord God our savior has brought every knee to bow before his chosen heir Jesus.

1 Corinthians 15: 25; For Christ must rule until God defeats all enemies and puts them under his feet. 26The last enemy to be defeated will be death. 27Ps 8.6 For the scripture says, “God put all things under his feet.” It is clear, of course, that the words “all things” do not include God himself, who puts all things under Christ. 28But when all things have been placed under Christ's rule, then he himself, the Son, will place himself under God, who placed all things under him; and God will rule completely over all.
