A Cephalopod Has Passed a Cognitive Test Designed For Human Children

The marshmallow test, or Stanford marshmallow experiment, is pretty straightforward. A child is placed in a room with a marshmallow. They are told if they can manage not to eat the marshmallow for 15 minutes, they'll get a second marshmallow, and be allowed to eat both.

This ability to delay gratification demonstrates cognitive abilities such as future planning, and it was originally conducted to study how human cognition develops; specifically, at what age a human is smart enough to delay gratification if it means a better outcome later.

Cephalopods are so cool. :D

Loved Patrick Mcgoohan in the movie. Have not thought about that show in a long time. Thanks for bring up the memory.

If you have Amazon Prime and don't mind some funky special effects that were not very good in 1968. We used to debate whether the show was political commentary or psychological with great evidence for either or both.

Never sure which - so British. But as an American I love British shows. New favorite is All Creatures Great and Small. Loved the books but also love the movie production. And yes I have followed Dr. Who for a long time. That's what happens when you have been around for a while.

Who cares it's a classic sign of sociopathy? Give me that damn marshmallow!
Sign of sociopathy? I think it's a sign of gullibility. Never trust experimental sociologists in lab coats, they lie all the time. (And since they do it for money, you can call them professional liars.)

No matter what we discover about other life, like this intriguing cuttlefish example, many will stick to their beliefs that non-human life is just instinctive and/or reactive, showing no signs of intelligence or even thinking - perhaps because they share such traits. :D

Like everywhere else in the UK, I live not far from where it was filmed (Portmeirion, seeing as you ask).
Did visit this nice place once. The funniest thing - we saw some chap being chased down the beach by this giant white ball.

I once visited Portmeirion - a bit of a pilgrimage for me at the time. My wife was uninterested until she realized that Portmeirion china existed. I marveled at how camera placement made the site look a lot different and bought something, memory tells me it was a button or two, at the gift shop.
