Death,Why is it so Scary?

Yet in face of eternity, I can't help but to think its guaranteed the lights will flip on again and again as much as it flips out again and again. No God required either.
Actually in what I believe - Advaita Hinduism, there is no birth or death. That is considered an illusion. No atom of my body has ever died in the past 13.78 billion years nor will it die in future with my death. Each atoms, wherever that might go, will be frolicking just in the way that it did in my body. Lights are always on, they cannot ever be switched off. Conservation of energy.

Ah, I do not believe in rebirth, I am an atheist, and I am not Christian. So naturally, I will be in hell for eternity. That is OK. I am enjoying my life with my grandson and I am trying to get the best out of it.
Now if you enjoy life with your dear grandson, yet we still think about death, doesn't it make sense that death is not our "friend"? The wonderful news is that God will do away with death forever, and that includes a resurrection from the dead.
1 Corinthians 15:26 aptly puts it: "“The last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing."
So it is said that death is an enemy. The last one that will be "brought to nothing."
I realize you're an atheist. I used to be one for many years. Now I believe and realize that the Bible is telling me the truth about death and life. And that God exists. URAVIP2ME is explaining things well to you, keep listening.

OK, you got me here. :) I happen to agree with you, that atoms may not disappear. I'm not a physicist and I don't think that any physicist can explain what really happens to atoms, etc. even if they blast up in a bomb. But! you're you and I'm me. I'm not you, and -- you're not me. So--God knows each one of us as individuals.
P.S. I could be wrong about atoms disappearing, but the real fact is that while we're alive, we can connect with others, even if over the internet. But when we're dead, as I understand it and really believe, we do not connect. Because -- we're dead. Ecclesiastes 9:5 has a nice explanation of it. It is therefore impossible for a dead person to be enjoying bliss or suffering torment: “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten."

I like that.

Yet the odds are still one percent.

It might take a couple of big bangs to trip that 1% again. Talk about long term odds.

Yet in face of eternity, I can't help but to think its guaranteed the lights will flip on again and again as much as it flips out again and again.

No God required either.
As I continue to study and think about it, read the Bible and think about situations (like life ...) I am more and more convinced that there IS a God, who is the initial and ultimate Creator and enabler of what we call life. Along with thinking about the universe and the earth.

".. for the memory of them is forgotten."
I have no problem with that too. It is a natural process. I remember my grand pa, remember what he told me of his pa, but he did not tell me about his grandpa, since at that time the family was in a different place far away. That is what will happen to my memory also. My grandsons will remember me. They would tell their children about me and my pa, but they would not know the other ancestors. Hindus have this word "pitr" (paters - that includes both the male and female ancestors). They are remembered till two or three generations individually, there are rituals that we perform for them or give charity in their name. Ancestors older than that are grouped in one whole. For them also we have rituals - 'Sarva Pitri Shrāddha' (Remembrance of all ancient ancestors whom we do not know individually). The fortnight during which we conduct these rituals and obseve fasts are held twice a year and are known as 'Shrāddha Paksha'. In time I will also join the senior group. That is the way of the world.

Death is neither a friend nor an enemy, it is a fact of life. You and your books take it as an enemy, I don't. If you cannot face it squarely, keep thinking, trying for an eternal life. I already have an eternal life.
I have never been provided any evidence of existence of God nor of anyone being a prophet / son / messenger / manifestation / mahdi sent by any God or Allah. I will keep listening to URAVIP2ME, but if I speak up the Mods will probably send me another warning. You people are evangelists and engage in an activity which is, by rule, not permitted in the forum.

Look, some are relegated to think death as a result of being born is what's there. OK, have a nice day. Atomic disappearance or not. :)
What I find interesting, to use that big word, is that religious talk is to be contained with: what? Anyway, have a nice day.

Death is a "fact" of life for many as life and death is what there "is." In life. As Newton the scientist indicated, he knows gravity by happenstance. I know life and death because -- of happenstance -- of having been born, growing up, and having a few marbles in my head. :)
And don't forget -- as many do and believe -- have a very good day!!

But I guess it's ok for those to tell me that what they believe is da trooth and nothing but. (That's ok, though.) So long fior now, lol, I'm chuckling here, hope I'm not given a warning or worse -- but in the meantime -- I hope (hope?) you have a good day. :)

We have some problem here. I have about 7,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (7 octillion) atoms in my body. After my cremation these atoms will disperse in the environment. Will the Bible God be able to reassemble the 7,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (7 octillion) atoms to re-create me? I tried to reassemble a table watch in my younger days and I was not able to do it.
In Scripture I find that God 'fashioned or formed' Adam from the dust of the ground - Genesis 2:7
In other words, there was No Adam anywhere before God made Adam from existing ground.
At death, dead Adam went back, or ' returned ' to the dust - Genesis 3:19.
A person can't ' return' to a place he never was before. Adam went back to where he started.
It's when we are in God's 'memory' that He can see that we are resurrected.
The Bible speaks of the Book of Life. People can be ' blotted out ' of that book - Psalms 69:28; Revelation 3:5; Revelation 13:8.
So, if we are in God's 'memory' (in His 'book', so to speak) then we will be resurrected with all the atoms necessary :)

My definition of eternal life is: that one does Not die.
I know of No one up to now who will Not die.
So, to already have eternal life to me would mean one is: death proof.
If one is death proof that would then mean alive somewhere else because we don't see them here.
I have No proof of any person being alive anywhere else.

P.S. I find many Christians have 'faced death squarely' before they were executed for their taking a stand for their faith.
To me, 'facing death squarely' does Not mean death is okay.

...and where does energy come from_________
The material / physical realm of existence did Not always exist.
So, why would atoms exist before the creation of the universe ___________

The Bible teaches that God had No birth, and will have No death. God being from: everlasting to everlasting.
If there is No Creator where does life come from ___________
I find life can't come from nothing. I think even science knows that life does Not come from non-life.
Scripture informs us that life comes from God's POWER, God's STRENGTH at Isaiah 40:26.
So, God supplied the abundantly needed dynamic energy to create both the invisible and visible realm of existence.
Seems to me at his death 'Adam's atoms' returned back to the earth where Adam started.
Returning back to the dust did Not give life to Adam elsewhere, just going back to non-life.
It wasn't atoms that gave Adam life. It was when God blew the ' breath of life ' into life-less Adam; that's when Adam's atoms came to life.

I think I can see a reason for the 'illusion that there is no birth or death'.
Scripture teaches us that ' eternity' is in our hearts.
In other words, for each day we can count we can count both forwards and backwards forever and ever.
This is because originally we were designed to live forever. Forever on Earth.
Satan and Adam disrupted God's design, but time was needed so we could be born and think who we would like as Sovereign over us.

Why is death so scary to many? Are you afraid of dying? Why or why not?

The answer is so simple. If death was not scary, everyone would be killing themselves the first time things got tough.

Sometimes the roughest roads will end up with the Best view. This doesn't happen if all those rough roads are avoided.

That's what I see. It's very clear.

Ah, you believe in illusions. Sure, illusions ('maya') are very hard to escape from. Now you have met someone who has never died and will never die. I, or the 7,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (7 octillion) atoms of my body will never die, not even one of them, and I will exist in billions of things after my so-called death. I will be nearly omni-present. One of the atoms of my body may come your way too even if you are in Timbuktu. Sure, you would not be able to see any of those atoms. Human senses are not that powerful.

That is a nice question, and science is presently grappling with that question. Perhaps the expansion of space creates energy. Positive energy along with negative energy. The four fundamental forces and gravity, matter and anti-matter. The answer will only be available in future. People can certainly abort that search with "Goddidit", as they have been doing all along. Zero-energy universe - Wikipedia

Especially if they're killed for their faith. Interestingly, I was listening to an account on NPR (National Public Radio) about a reporter who was following a young man from Morocco (Muslim) because after a period of questioning and seeking, this person was imprisoned in Guantanamo. The family (in Morocco) was visited by the reporter (also apparently Muslim from the U.S.) It was quite interesting. And one of the commentators said something like those who put their faith first are fanatics. And I thought if a person does not put his faith first, what then is there? (But that's me...and, I suppose, many others, even among those who do not agree about these things.)

People generally strive to be happy. Many do not achieve this, but they think inwardly they can be happy and so they continue with their lives. Despite knowing they can and likely may die.

We are all Spiritual beings in our true nature. We are eternal. Being eternal, we all think in eternal terms even when the physical body tends to wear out. We think eternal in so many ways like Love and Relationships. It is who we are.

As for happiness, happiness is something I think few people really understand. Happiness is no more than a choice. Even in the midst of turmoil, I will always be Happy.

That's what I see. It's very clear!!

I guess we're wearing different lenses. (Have a nice day. The sun is shining here and I hear some birds. Nice! Makes me happier despite so much bad, bad news.)
