Same. In the military we called it gundecking. To sign for a piece of maintenance, that one never completed.
I immediately took it as such. I'm touchy about that.
Quite touchy. But then, a man in possession of a fulsome three inches of thrust-some love muscle can only be expected to be sensitive to such things, given all the years of lavish feminine praise and admiration he has surely received.
First seeing this thread I thought "pencil whip" meant opening the barn door and letting the horses out. And then I see "cyber equivalent" and imagined a transhuman robot penis so...
The equivalent would be "metallic flurry"

I was thinking on those lines
It's like filling out some form or report as quickly as possible, without paying much attention to truth or content, just to get it done and out of the way. It's considered dishonest and fraudulent. As an example, there was a crane collapse and the ensuing investigation revealed that the local crane inspector turned in falsified reports but never actually did any inspections. He pencil whipped his reports.
A fine example of gun decking if I ever heard one. (I prefer my term).
One of the guys I used to work with was in charge of flushing and draining the water system we used to cool overheating warheads if they got stuck in our launching system. The water can only stay stagnant for so long, before mineralization sets in, so we flush, drain and refill regularly. Needless to say, he gundecked the tagging procedures meant to secure the proper water valves as closed, without checking that they were all fully closed. Upon starting his maintenance, he let loose a deluge of water that soaked one of my multi-million dollar missiles. Lowly E4 johnson (not real name), had to answer to the CO of the ship about that one.
Needless to say he spent the next 90 days barred from leaving the ship (could you imagine you work locking you in for ****ing up?). And he had his paycheck cut by %50 during said 90 days.
Sounds like he got off lucky. In civilian jobs, you'd probably get fired. At least he still got to keep his job.
It takes a lot to get fired from the military.
