WWJD: could society function?

Heyo

Veteran Member
If everyone lived their lives according to "what would Jesus do" could society function, or would it collapse?

Personally, I think it would improve but perhaps I'm being naive?
As soon as two people would live their lives according to WWJD, you'd have a fight at hand. (Both stating "I am the only way to salvation.")
Get out the popcorn, it's fight night.

If everyone did what Jesus wanted
1- Everyone would plan ahead and work hard.
2- There would be no crime. No need for a police department.
3- There would be no poor through a combination of personal hardwork and voluntary donations from those who have more. No need for any type of government welfare.
4- Nobody would start a war. No need for the military.
5- No sex out of marriage, so no unwanted pregnacy, so no abortion. No need for laws to regulate any of this.
6- No kids without parents, who love and care for them. In the case of death or unfortunate circumstances a family member would step in.
7- No divorce because nobody would do anything bad enough to make the other party seek a divorce.
8- No violence in society. No fights.
9 - No pride. No greed. No selfishness. Everyone would care about and for one another. No governement regulation needed. All done out of Christian goodwill.
10. No revenge, Forgiveness instead.
11. No racism.
12. No oppresion of human rights. Free speech. Freedom to worship.
13. The right to bare arms would be moot. No need to have a gun for protection, except from wild animals. No complaints about who can or should own a gun. All would be for hunting or sport. No need to arm yourself for protection.
14. No jails or prisons.
15. No broken homes and none of the negaitve fallout.
16. There's a lot more, but I don't want to keep writing.

Christianity has been around for 2000+ years and it has not happened yet. "What Jesus would do" is hypothetical, more than a bit naive, and there is a lot more to the Bible that makes things difficult for doing "what Jesus would do," and hundreds of churches disagree.

Also, If everyone did "what Buddha would do," the world would be a better place.

Just saying, maybe Buddism screwed up China.

The reality of China up to the MAO Revolution was Confucian and to a degree Taoist, and Confucianism remains the dominant influence on the family and community level. Buddhism is the third wheel in China and did not influence Chinese history.

Didn't improve the first time so no, society would remain as it is.

Nah, all I did was give one example of poor rural society.

Anyone living that way wants to get away from it.

I was really mocking the idea that Jesus and Buddha were the same fellow.

Just a weird link. I shouldn't expect people to waste time on a silly link.

Hmmmmm. Does Jesus prefer chocolate or berry?

Will he let me sell my daughter like the Torah says?

And he says nothing against slavery, and Paul takes slavery for granted, right?

This thing about, if you don't like someone's business, you can trash their counters, chase 'em down the street with a whip, and go back and wipe their credit card and stock records, that was Jesus, right?

And not a jot, not a coffee stain, of the Law will be changed till everything's accomplished, so no contact with menstruating women, no shaving of beards, put to death kids who razz their parents, not to mention all the witches, all of that. right?
Personally, I think it would improve but perhaps I'm being naive?
I'm skeptical, myself.

And anyway, if you're in the US, now Donald's gone it won't get past the Senate.

If the world obeyed Christ, we would have paradise on earth in my humble opinion.

Well, JC would not have voted for right wing parties; he hated the money lenders and wanted to feed all.
So, if voting for socialism is an outcome, we would have a better world.

Yes, certainly Venezuela is a much better place these days now that the
money lenders are gone.
But God, by definition, is conservative. God isn't going to support feminism
one day, then Trans Rights the next, then shift over to Polygamy when it
becomes fashionable.

Our economic system is, IMHO, incompatible with his teachings. That is why I am a Christian socialist and pacifist.

So if this was Britain 1939 would you have declared war on Germany for invading Poland?
Would you support Britain's war effort, or seek to stop it?
Would you invite Hitler's overtures of peace?
Would you have handed Britain's Jews over to Hitler, for the sake of peace?

Did you guys notice that the RCC in the past used to do all the opposite of what Jesus did?
Jesus forgave the adulterer; the Vatican used to execute heretics and witches. Jesus forgave the good thief on the cross...the Vatican denied mercy to many, during those dark ages.
So I think that when a religion goes political, it forgets Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ was a pacifist. He stopped Peter when he tried to defend him with the sword from the Roman soldiers.
If all Christians behaved exactly like Jesus, there would be no wars. There would be more social justice.

So answering the question, yes...it would be a better place.

So with all 'Christian' nations pacifist, what would you do if the Soviet Union
or the Muslim nations attacked?
Pacifism is fine in theory, but only if your opponent is also a pacifist, otherwise
he owns your country, and you.

Plus Jesus comes across as dumb as a rock.

Cursing fig trees out of season?

Actually, the fig tree was symbolic. It represented the Jewish nation.
After Jesus the Jews lost their temple, Jerusalem and finally all of
Israel itself. Only now are they allowed to return.

Ha, the old Venezuela line again; the right wing never compare to the Scandinavian countries or New Zealand; they just keep bringing up Fox's bogey man.

Read/watch another source of news.
