Why do you need God in your life?

Well, 'need' is slightly loaded as I believe G-d exists the same way I 'believe' the Moon exists; He's just there.

Otherwise, I need G-d in my life else I wouldn't have a life, literally. G-d is the maker and keeper of all.
If you didn't believe in him how would your life be different?

God? Of course I need him! He's the dude who mows my lawn. His real name is Jesus, and he slipped into the country from Mexico.

I would express it in different words than @Rival but my answer is in essence the same.

My belief in That (God/Divinity) is part of my belief that existence has an ultimate and indeed beautiful meaning.

OK, but I am sure you would not lose the purpose of life, if the moon did not exist.
So, why do you say that your life would have no purpose if God did not exist?

Well, I would have nothing to do! Any values or rules I had would be entirely made-up and not inherent to life itself. It would seem fake and ultimately just as nihilistic as ever.

The moon is just the moon. But to a believer, God is not "Just God", for he is the creator and ruler of the moon, as well as He is the creator of earth and mankind. If you wish to understand and are not content with the explanations a theist would give you, than why do you ask and not try to figure it out yourself?

This is a question for those who believe in a personal God:

What reasons you think of for why you need God in your life?

For me, in God I have an additional parent. Which is good!
I need to practice gratitude. I am an addict/alcoholic that will slide into hopelessness and negativity as an excuse to kill myself with drugs and alcohol if I don't maintain a vigilant state of joy, hope, and above all, gratitude for the gift of life. And I use the concept of God as a focus for that gratitude, and hope, and joy of being. "God" helps me realize the value of love, forgiveness, kindness, honesty, spontaneity, and generosity in life. And to see these gifts all around me, in others. And this makes life worth living. It makes sobriety worth maintaining. And it makes engaging with others worth doing.

The philosophical question of the "existence of God" is of little importance to me. I can't determine that, anyway, and I don't care. What matters to me is the idea, and the possibilities that come with it: of the God of my understanding manifesting in the world I am currently living in. Of a God of love, forgiveness, kindness, ... etc., being a reality in my life. And it is. It does exist in that sense. And that's all that matters to me. That's what changes me, and heals me, and saves me from myself. What more could I want? What more could I ask of it?

I am blessed.

I would lie if I would tell, that I do not need God. Thus, I need God. Who else would create Universe and my parents?

Interesting perspective. But sort of true. I would say that many human values are a result of humans being social creatures. All social creatures have underlying values that allow them to co-exist. There are certain rules that are intrinsic to humanity, but admittedly applied in the tribal sense, and rules that are absolutely arbitrary.

I don't really understand what it is supposed to mean to put "personal" in front of gods, so I have to ignore that part. The gods are not "personal" to just me, they are there for anyone. In my case, quite literally - the "just the moon" folks are talking about is one of the gods I regularly worship. I deify the world as our ancestors did because I recognize that there are many, many, many forces fundamentally greater than I am. Without these greater forces - without the gods - I don't even exist.

To add for "just the moon" crowd, some light reading about the importance of this god/not-god (however you want to look at it): What Would Happen If There Were No Moon? | Inside Science

That's an excellent explanation, thanks! I understand polytheism, I think, but it's difficult to explain it to someone. And you did that very well, here. I'm going to try and remember it.

I need God because I am not autonomous, but a created being meant to be in a living relationship with my Creator the only Source of life.

I need God to save me from His righteous judgment and my self- destructive tendencies (sin, as the scriptures say), when I act like I’m self-existent.

”For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.“
John 3:16

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”
John 5:24
