Security

Today, security is one of those things people put high on the list of 'must have', and would we complain that they are really 'over the top'?
Online (internet) security is no less important than securing one's home, or valuables. In fact, one's privacy is considered to many, valuable.
With the abundance of trackers, hackers, and crackers, on the internet, is there any cause for concern...
If anyone called me a security freak, this is one time I won't argue with them. :D

So question... Has anyone been having problems with RF's internet connections, which has caused you concern over a possible security issue?

Not as of late.

You must be wary of posters posting certain links though. Not the old timers but new people who post stuff advertising things (which you should report to moderators as I think that is not allowed. This isn't shop) and if you click on a link and your browser says it isn't secured, both which I have seen once on the forum.

Have you come across any problems as of late?

Do you mean the little hick-up the site had this morning?
My guess is that was due to some administrative work done on the server, no security concern here.

Yeah, that stuff happens on occasion. No need to worry about it having anything to do with attacking your privacy though @nPeace . :) Those problems do tend to happen with website maintenance.

That "hick-up" tends to reoccur at random times, and my security alerts tend to sound the alarm. Right now it's good, because they are quiet :)... but I tend to be a bit concerned, especially, when embedded images on a website can be a security issue.

I'm not concerned about security when RF or another system goes down.

I am concerned about security which is why I don't save banking passwords in my browser, have two different kinds of backups, run what I believe is great antivirus software and have free Malwarebytes to run on occasion.

You have good software.
I had Malwarebytes add-on in my browser, but I found it slowed things down, so I removed it, but I think they do a good job.

I just realized clicking on the icons causes a security alert.
I tested it out on other sites, and found, it happens only on one other particular site, but not most others.

I am the opposite of a security freak when it comes to computers and internet. I never used a virus scanner, only to check them out what they do.

Now I have Windows 10, and I think it has all the needed protection in it. I am a control freak as in "my laptop should run very smooth"

And, if anything strange happens, I solve it. And worse case scenario, I re-image Windows. In the past 30 years I never had a real computer problem. I like challenges (computer related), so once I created a problem on my computer, by letting a virus run and see what happens. It messed up my virtual XP pretty bad. But to be sure (fear):D, I re-imaged;) everything

So, I think it's wise to take wise precautions; better safe than sorry. Viruses and hackers can mess up your computer quite bad

Worse than computer troubles (which I can easily solve), are hacked accounts (my father once had, and I needed black magic to solve it:D) or even spam

Yes, I have. Strange things have happened when I am on RF. I attributed it to God, as it is Religious Forums:D, but probably just all coincidences

That indeed is something to be concerned about. Passwords and banking accounts

I thought about it recently. Maybe a good solution is to use 1 smartphone (or laptop) for banking alone, and strip it from all the other apps/software

And when using a computer, I could use Linux Kiosk, which only has 1 browser, not able to touch the internal hard disk. And because almost nobody uses Linux Kiosk the chance of getting hacked is relatively very small (the hacker must be very fast, hacking within the few minutes you use the Linux Kiosk). It also has virgin boot and the option to flush to virgin while using and it runs in RAM, not using disk after booted

I tried it out, and it works good, but usually I am to lazy to use it (reboot into Linux Kiosk), but hearing more and more about security, I better do it. So, thanks for the reminder. I think I better make that my sadhana "safe banking". I have one extra laptop, I can use for just that.

Big cause for concern. The thing is, that chances being hacked are very small I think, so it's easy to get lazy being careful enough

I got quite lazy, so thank you for this thread on threats. I better clean up (usually I did factory reset laptop/smartphones every 6-12 month out of precaution, but that is almost 3 years ago. Running smooth still, but not hacker proof.

Do they say anything more than that?
I'm pretty sure it's not because of RF. Nobody else seems to have that problem, the connection runs over https with a valid certification from cloudflare. Duckduckgo privacy blocks 2 trackers (which is pretty low).

Can you give an example of one of your most "strange" experiences.

I thought, let's wait till it happens again and then I reply, I hope it does not take to long, or I might forget to reply

Just now (ca. 1 hour after I decided to wait) I replied to a post using the word "political stance"

As I typed the word "stance", the RF internal word-checker signalled (underline red:D) me that it was wrong
I thought "what the hack, RF discriminates, if @SomeRandom types 'stance' it's seen as good, but when I type it, it is seen as wrong (red underline)"

So, I thought "let's copy/paste the magic word of @SomeRandom behind my word and see if RF word check discovers it's mistake"
Lo and behold, I copy/paste his word after mine (space in between of course), and RF "saw" it's mistake and the "red underline" disappeared:D

That was a nice quick gift of God (or coincidence...), otherwise (if it would have taken too long) I might have forgotten to reply to your question:D
