A purple plant...that can decorate any garden spot beautifully.
It is a plant from Mexico so it needs that particular humid subtropical climate to grow spontaneously...
As apartment plant, it is very delicate and needs light to survive. At the same time summer heat can weaken it.
It needs peat as soil and does not particularly need water in Winter. As long as the soil and the vase are wet.

Sounds unsuited for Revoltistan.
-20C winters (sometimes lower) are tough on tropicals.
But I can do wonders with hostas.

I know tradescantia, generally, as spiderwort, but I had not seen one with leaves that colour before. From your description, this variety does not seem to be one I could grow in London.

I guess you could, actually. In a vase, indoor...it can survive cold.:)

everybody needs a living wall of air cleaning plants in their "living" room.....always wondered as a lad why the living room looked like some place for the dead....all that kitschy style stiff and dry, formal, in the living room, ...like, where is the life? some folks had plants growing everywhere in their "sitting" room/porch, which were always more ...lively one could say...
curious quirks of life and language hmm...?

My tradescantia in a vase. It can survive indoor...but it really needs light every now and then.
