I believe deaths will taper off a lot as vaccination of the elderly rolls out, as they are the majority who die. Half a million isn't unreasonable though.

Eventually, yes. But keep in mind:-

1) it will take 2-3 months before all the vulnerable have been vaccinated,
2) in the US there will be a sizeable contingent of vaccine refuseniks, though possibly fewer among the elderly,
3) it takes 3 weeks after the vaccination before the immunity takes effect,
4) About 4 weeks typically elapses between a person becoming infected and them dying.

So, when you add this together, the vaccination programme will have no significant effect on the death rate until the spring.

people already in distress.....suffer more

On second thought, I saw the needles they're using on tv, and they look a bit too long.

False analogy. No judgment is made one way or another about eating and choking, crossing a street and getting hit by a bus. But hopes and conclusions are being pinned on a sampling of 40,000? The US population is 330 million, a sampling of 0.00012121212.

I understand people are eager for this for their own reasons and beliefs. In 10 months or so I personally know one person who was hospitalized for what was said to be covid, but what I heard was third hand. So in 10 months neither I, nor anyone in my family nor among my friends and coworkers contracted it. Oh, I might have passed it on to a stranger? But masks work, don’t they? I haven’t had any interactions with anyone who wasn’t wearing a mask. Oh but people don’t comply. Really? Give me a couple of days and from my travels I’ll give you pictures of hundreds of people in the mall, supermarkets, big box stores, convenience stores, all wearing masks. Do what makes you feel secure, but don’t suggest that anyone who has their doubts about the vaccine are somehow less than intelligent.

Depends on how soon they can roll it out. Time will tell.

Then it's a good thing you don't live in the US, you live in Ocean County (at least that's what you claim). There the sampling size is a respectable 6.5877672 %.
