The threat of violence or whatever is not a reason not to impeach and convict.
Oh, I disagree. The Constitution's bases for impeachment
are vague enuf to include the Prez merely posing a danger
of inciting violence. And that is an excellent reason.

Impeachment has only the trappings of a legal procedure because it doesn't have the same rules of evidence as courts. It is basically a political process.

Meet me in the middle, says the unjust man.

You take a step toward him. He takes a step back.

This sums it up perfectly.

I was considered a centrist conservative until a decade ago, what we called a "pink Tory". Now I find myself treated as some sort of leftie, just because I have not shuffled to the right, to meet these people halfway all the time.

His guilt or innocence has nothing to do with anything. Trump's verdict depends on a number of Republican Senators breaking ranks with Him.

Republicans that are, and have broken ranks, despite the threats and consequences, is a strong support for conviction of Trump.

Actually there is such a strong division, no chance of peace in the immediate future.

. . . but the current effort is bipartisan

I say this with all honesty, can the country get even more divided? Like seriously, what's left?
It can get more divided. It's not just Republicans and Democrats, it's factions within each major party.

For a good example of "division", just look at Christianity.

I maintain this divisiveness has to end in the Christian churches before it can in the public at large. Some people think Christianity is irrelevant, but I don't. I think Christians are 98% responsible both for causing it and for fixing it, but there is little you can do about it yourself other than complain.

It appears that Republicans believe that impeaching
Trump will divide the country. So they're preparing
articles of impeachment for Biden. Weird.
