When I was moved to my unit in the army just a little over a month ago, I met a very sweet, playful, and friendly cat. He would walk around the whole unit and often show up in the eating areas, where I usually bought food for him or shared my meals with him before playing with him when I had time.

Yesterday, multiple people told me first thing in the morning that they had seen him dead by the roadside. I thought they were pranking me at first (because I have a reputation in the unit of being a cat and animal lover, so sometimes they teased me by saying that the cat had escaped, etc.), but unfortunately, I went to where they told me his body was and saw it myself. I never thought I'd experience that much grief over a cat I had only known for just a bit over a month.

There were no visible wounds or bruises on his body, so I suspect he either died of an illness or from poisoning/a venomous animal's attack. I picked up a piece of wood I found lying around and dug a hole for him. I buried him and then used a big stone as a tombstone for him, complete with an epitaph including his passing date.

I'll miss his playful cuddles and loud purrs. Rest in peace, furry friend.

I'm really sorry DS. A furry friend is a good friend and it's so sad when they die :hugehug:

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

Sorry to hear. Furry friends can be close as family. At least you were included in the animals life and made your friend better and happier for it. Always an honor to do that knowing the world has been made a bit better for it.

May your cat friend dwell in the land of catnip and meeces.

Thanks, all. I still think of him from time to time, but I take consolation in knowing that at least he probably died a natural death (which nobody could realistically prevent) rather than having been run over by a car or the like.

I appreciate all of the kind thoughts in this thread.
