Scripture and the rule of law

These two passages are about what us modern folk might call "the rule of law" and how Christians should follow it

I'll just leave them here :D

Romans 13:1-4
New American Standard Bible

Be Subject to Government
13 Every person is to be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. 3 For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; 4 for it is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a servant of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.

1 Peter 2:13-14
New American Standard Bible

Honor Authority
13 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, 14 or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right.

To love god with all our heart, all our mind, and all our soul, is to trust God is in control of all that was, all that is, and all that ever shall be, only then can we love our neighbor as ourselves as part of God's good plan, no one can serve two masters.

Matthew 6:24
New International Version

24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Ya gotta be careful when reading Paul because he tends to use a lot of dualism, thus probably a reflection of his Greek education. He clearly does not mean the above to be taken literally at all times as he refutes it at other times, thus placing Jesus' teachings above secular demands.

I think they are only about that we should not violently resist. Paul and Jesus didn’t violently resist, but Jesus was murdered and Paul was in jail, so obviously they didn’t obey in everything earthly governments said. I think disciples of Jesus (Christian) should also obey God rather than men, if the orders of men are evil and bad.
