Faithless a Choice?

There actually is a huge amount of very concrete evidence for so much that plainly
shows that so much of the Bible is fable,
but those with self - indulgent "faith" close eyes, ears and mind.

Self indulgent because they choose it to please themselves. They think they know bettervthsn every scientist on earth.
And they think they know better than millions of educated Christians who take a mature, intelligent, and frankly, sanecapprosch to faith in the Bible.
They know that the fabulous nature of such
tales as Noah's ark and Exodus have nothing to
do with God. THE ONE WH DID THOSE THINGS DOES NIT EXIDT.

Lesser faith and intellect prefers the false God
they choose, the one that exists only in their egotistical heads.

Damn, @Audie... But tell me how you really feel. :D

Why does the world lack faith? Is it because there is lack of evidence, hence disbelief?
Well, you said it....there's a lack of evidence.
I cannot force myself to believe something unevidenced, eg,
Thor, Allah, God, Harry Potter, fiscally conservative Democrats,
green cheese Moon, creationism, Jesus, intelligent design,
Trump being a Russian agent, flat Earth, & unicorns.
According to the Bible, No. This is not the case.
Something isn't true simply because a book says so.

Now now, he said there's a huge amount of clear evidence.
Itchin' ears eagerly awaits hearing it.

According to the Bible, No. This is not the case. To the contrary.

There is a huge amount of clear evidence, and many do believe. However, the Bible highlighted the reasons for the lack of faith - the faithless.
It said... "The reason why they were not able to believe is that again Isaiah said: “He has blinded their eyes and has made their hearts hard, so that they would not see with their eyes and understand with their hearts and turn around and I heal them.” Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory, and he spoke about him. All the same, many even of the rulers actually put faith in him, but they would not acknowledge him because of the Pharisees, so that they would not be expelled from the synagogue; for they loved the glory of men even more than the glory of God." - John 12:39-43.

So the reasons the Bible gave are, 1) God prevents them from having that faith; 2) They fear men, because they prefer glory from men.
In other words, God leaves people in a spiritually blind state, because they don't want to accept, or they don't want to face rejection and ridicule from the faithless, but want to receive praise from them.

Why would God, not rather open their eyes though. Does he not want to save them?
The simple answer is given at 2 Thessalonians 2:11, 12... That is why God lets a deluding influence mislead them so that they may come to believe the lie, in order that they all may be judged because they did not believe the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness.

According to the Bible, the simple answer is... it's what they choose.
Do they want to be faithless? Is that what the Bible is saying? Evidently, in a way, yes.
A person may believe something but they may not want to believe it, for their own personal reasons.
For example, the text above states one reason. The text quoted earlier gave another, when it said, they love the glory of men, and they feared rejection.

Is God fair in letting people choose even though it results in the person's harm, rather than their benefit?
I'm glad I can make a free choice, and I am sure Atheists, and agnostics are equally happy that they can freely choose what they want to accept.

So whether one has faith or not, is actually up to an individual. It a personal choice.
Thoughts?
That would disqualify just about every character portrayed in the Bible itself as none of them required any such faith.

Somehow faith is now required and makes for quite a contradiction when comparing to the stories of biblical characters.

As a atheist, i don't have feelings.

But ifn I did, I would feel that the
religionists are tying themselves
Into all kinds of knotts over a bunch
of nothing.

Nonsense! When have humans
ever done anything like that!

The Bible said:

...they love the glory of men, and they feared rejection.
So where does this put disbelieving misanthropes, in your estimation? People who don't believe, and yet feel that humanity, as it stands, is mostly a steaming pile of manure? Take me for example. I don't, at all, think that there is any such thing as "the gory of men." People are NOT glorious. Not even close. We're idiots. Plain and simple. Dolts who are to be found doing things like heartily believing in, and spreading belief in fairy tales and having a go at destroying our own planet.

So how do you classify nonbelievers who put absolutely no faith in humanity? Who would assign no glory to men?

Methinks your Bible is a pretty small thing, with an extremely small perspective. Small enough that it should readily be ignored.

I can't think of a way that could be
said with greater intellectual honesty.

Give me time, though. I'll make

FYI: like when people say that homosexuality is a choice, when I hear someone say that being faithless is a choice, what I hear is "the only way I maintain my religious faith is with a deliberate act of will."

Have you ever seen a cocky guy try to pick up a woman with some stale and practiced line of BS, where she rejects him, and he finds it inconceivable that she doesn't want him? Then he blames her for his lack of appeal by inventing what he imagines are short-comings for her; saying that she is too full of herself; she afraid of a handle a real man; some $lu4-shaming, some gratuitous sexual degradation, etc, etc. All because his ego is to fragile to handle rejection. Anyone who has been to high school or lived in a place with more than a few hundred people has seen this.

Thoughts?

The thought is that the assorted Biblical authors (and you as their proxy, I guess) find it inconceivable to contemplate that anyone might honestly and truly not find their (your) practiced lines credible. And so, they (you) are that guy, inventing short-comings for non-believers to make yourselves feel better when we reject your claims.

There have always been those who will question the need for religious faith and the implementation of religious faith. In the past it has been few disenters for various reasons, including execution of non believers.
Yes. Very much true.
The Garden of Eden account made that un-obstructively clear as to why.
To put it in a few simple words,
This song is so short on words it's hard to miss its message.

Nonetheless, this message is the old message that started some 6,000 year ago. Genesis 3:1-5. and it continued to be echoed through millennia.

...and yes, I do agree that the ministers of Satan has indeed done a "good job" in misrepresenting truth.
How often have we seen a movie, where the villain impersonates the hero, and does wrong, and the Hero gets blamed. Then everyone want's to exterminate the hero... except the ones that know him.
I think movies are made by people who knows the real deal. I think when people watch them, they should see past the entertainment, but then, would they be esoteric?

In more modern times the rate of dissatisfaction with religion as an answer to the unknown has increased dramatically. The reason it's losing popularity i think are two fold.
First science is providing many of the answers to the unknown, filling the gaps in knowledge traditionally filled with a god.
Secondly the internet provides instant access to knowledge and data never before accessible. The questioning mind devours the information and is free to make uts choice without (much) fear of reprisal or death for choosing to discard faith in religion
I have found it is only losing popularity with those that fit the Bible's description, as refered to in the OP.
Millions of people are thirsting for the truth, and they are turning to God, for answers.

In light of their disillusion with the failings of Government, and the various elements of this system, they are seeking out answers they think they can trust. Interesting enough, many turn to the Bible.
That may seem strange to many... but why are people doing so?

The Bible gives an answer on this, as well. It was prophesied, and evidently is taking place. Micah 4:1-7 ; Matthew 5:3
These persons are also making use of that knowledge via internet, and as more third world countries gain access through technology, more and more people are being informed of the truth, which is no longer obscured under the guise of Satan's religious system - including Christendom, which is filled with bloodshed, and poisonous wine.

May I add a third reason?

Too many churches pinning their masts to political parties against the teachings of their holy scripts.
Yes. this is a good one.
It actually is evidence that the prophecy of Revelation 17, and 18, is being fulfilled. Revelation 17:15 - 18:3

Her waters are drying up, and soon she will be devastated, and repaid for all her atrocious acts, that caused many lives to be lost... according to scripture.
That is good news, I think.

Seeing how you're the one making your religion look bad, what role do you think we should assume that you're playing?

Most of your OP has been adequately answered elsewhere.

Firstly, why do you believe quoting your holy book will help a discussion? If I, as an atheist, quoted Sam Harris would it impress you?

The reasons for my disbelief are many: -
Lack of evidence
Hypocrisy
Lack of compassion for the like of homosexuals and pregnant women
Involvement with politics
9/11 and abortion clinic attacks

I could go on...
The OP says there is no lack of evidence, so we disagree on your reasons. You are free to believe it though.

Biblical 'reasons' are so silly, aren't they? Transparently agenda-driven. Reading the Bible in reference to non-believers is kin to asking a Ford salesman his opinion of the Toyota salesman. Same vulgar level.

The Bible has some truly insightful passages in it. Wish its treatment of atheism and non-belief rose above the level of mudslinging.

Does anyone recall the name of the Dutch theologian who said, "Atheists are our natural allies because they ask the right questions"? I recall the quote but not the author.
Guess that makes Jesus, his apostles, and the prophets silly.
