I appreciate all the comments from the Bible. They are all good of course because it is God's word! I of course can't do any better than Jesus Christ. When he was asked something similar:
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” He said to him: “‘You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. The second, like it, is this: ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets.”-Matthew 22:36-40.
Jesus was showing the real meaning behind the law. It was about showing compassion, empathy, and most of all love, love of God, and love of your fellow man or woman.
Jesus was quoting from Deuteronomy where it says (as well as other scriptures):
"You must love Jehovah your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your strength."-Deuteronomy 6:5.
I enjoy the following verses as well:
"These words that I am commanding you today must be on your heart, 7 and you must inculcate them in your sons and speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road and when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as a reminder on your hand, and they must be like a headband on your forehead. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."-verses 6-9.
A parent is commanded to inculcate the word of God into their child's heart. The father is not only to provide materially, but also emotionally, and most importantly spiritually for his family. But before a parent can inculcate a love of God in their child's heart, they first most love God. And then by their speech, and conduct, the faith and love they show their children will be moved to serve God as well even as the Proverb says:
Train a boy in the way he should go;
Even when he grows old he will not depart from it.
-Proverbs 22:6.
