I can't even believe I'm about to type this.

I just got off the phone with Rich's girlfriend. He past away late this afternoon.

They were watching a movie together, and she thought he fell asleep. She tried to wake him, with no luck. He past away on the way to the hospital.

Rich was my best chat buddy. We've been chatting everyday for about 4-5 years now. He planned several New Beetle get togethers each summer. I just can't imagine chat without him. He brought a lot of us New Beetle people over here.

I'm going to miss him tremondously. I'm in complete shock.

Oh, my Goodness! I can hardly begin to imagine.....................

The only thing I can say is that he can't have suffered much:(

I am so sorry for you though, and, obviously for his girlfriend - I was expecting you to say something about her, because I remembered that she had cancer a couple of years back.............

Awww, darn it!!! I knew Rich from another forum, too, and really enjoyed his thoughts, wit, orneryness. Prayers to you, Pete, and all the others Rich left behind. He is probably watching our reactions and laughing, saying, see, you would shake your heads sometimes, but I KNEW you'd miss me! God love him.

Not much as far as updated info, but figured I'd share this.

As many of you probably know, Rich and his partner Joan have been together for about 25 years. They pretty much had only each other. Rich has a sister, but didn't really keep in touch with her. So it's was really just Rich and Joan against the world.

Rich mentioned many times that his only concern was staying alive long enough to support Joan. They did ok on their combined social security, but if anything ever happened to him, he said she could not support herself on her own social security. And since they never married, his goes away.

We haven't figured out the details, but the people over on the www.newbeetle.org are going to start some type of collection to send to Joan.

Rich did not want a funeral or anything like that, so he is going to be cremated.

When we figure out details, I'll let you all know.

I am so sorry to hear about this. Words can't describe the sorrow I feel.

I think some type of memorial is good. Although currently, I'm not in the place to do this. I will try to do this late tonight, or early tomorrow morning. I know he has a picture or two of himself in the post a picture of yourself section. Maybe I could use something like that, or his avatar, or username. I'll see what I can come up with.

I really can't believe this, when i read the OP my heart was going like a jackhammer.

I can't believe he's gone, he was a regular participant in the chat room discussions of old, that's what i'll remember him for, such a great sense of humour and a genuinely nice bloke. I'm going to miss him.

My heart goes out to Joan and you pdoel.

Rich is gone? its funny, its only after you lose someone you realize how much you like them, i shall miss him as he was a friend. but take solace in the fact that although he is dead, he died sleeping and in the company of his beloved. death is the biggest adventure anyone can go on, i am sure he is happy. would it be possible to make some sort of memorial on RF for deceased members?

Rich & I got off to a rocky start on NewBeetle, butting heads on several topics. Then we got to know each other in chat and became friends. He's the chap who invited me onto RF, and in June 2005, I took a vacation day to drive up to Berea, OH to meet him and some other :beetle: people.

I didn't get to make the trip this year, but I was planning on it in 2007. I'll check the other threads and see what I can offer. :162:

He does now. He's in Paradise. And if anybody has a problem with my saying that, I'm sorry. I don't care if he was an atheist. He was a good person and has gone to a much better place. :)

I concur, what you believe in isn't the important thing, it's who you are inside and how you treat others. He always gave me respect and the least I can do is show the same.

Have fun in Heaven Retro, we're a poorer planet without you.

I didn't know him that well, but of the little I did, I liked him, and I liked what he had to say. He will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to all of those close to him. :(

I have added a dedication to him at the top of the page. You can click on Click Here at the top of the page and see a few photo's that remind you of him, and Bob Dylan singing since he said those were his favorite lyric's in a previous thread. It doesn't do him justice, but it should personalize him a little to everyone.

I am truly sorry about this passing and wish the best for his family and friends.
