Trump presidential debate

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Biden believes in what he's doing. By all appearances cares very much about America. He believes government is a force for change. Say what you want about that.

Trump is obviously a bad deal for everybody. And has nothing of a plan, and is a lousy person.

Biden proved that at the very least he is far beyond better than Trump.

I'm utterly sick of gasoline on the fire rage in the white house. I'm sick of climate change denial. The circus of trump must end. I think trump foolery show is finally going to be over. He thinks in terms of rabble rousing. Everything is conspiracy with him. He feeds ignorant rage. Trump is a long list of bad.

I suppose republicans think that capitalism can solve all problems if we leave big government out of it. This is a time to face gravely serious crises with hard decisions though. Capitalism needs law and order. Greed isn't going to change its ways and fix all our problems. The wealthy people don't care about the bottom half of America.

Dump trump.

Trump does not look out for the bottom 60% of Americans.
Biden still comes across as an opportunist. He's going to say anything and everything that people want to hear and in return will do nothing except the status quo and business as usual if elected. That is, raise people's taxes sky high and pay off his cronies, and salt the pork barrel for the future.

I will say however that Trump didn't help last night. He destroyed the whole purpose as why they were both there in the first place.

He needs to let Biden say his piece without interruption and bite his lip until its his turn or until it becomes open debate.

He certainly was well spoken, though I have only seen the first half. Its paused, and I can finish it later.

Well...I think that is a rumor which ought to be more circumspect. Republican voters, just like Democrat voters, generally feel they have little choice so swallow all kinds of polices that they don't much care about. Consider the typical Democrat voter. They are in a similar stressed position. Democrat voters often are so opposed to another four years of Trump that they will put up with absolutely anything that comes down from the heads of their party. They have no bargaining position. They won't say to the party "Hey I want cruelty to puppies outlawed or I'm gone, goodbye." Instead they'll support whatever the party does. Republican voters are in a similar situation, somewhat afraid of what the Democrat candidate has up their sleeve - whatever rumors the party mouths cook up. This alters the way the Republic is supposed to work. It makes you believe and hear certain things about Republican candidates and voters -- only negative things generally. They hear the same about you and Democratic candidates. It is always only partial truth that you will hear such "Republicans think that capitalism can solve all problems..." Such is an exaggeration to let the Democrat party pretend that Republicans are an entirely separate country that have nothing in common with Democrats.

So this actually is your first time watching a presidential debate? It has nothing to with "babying" and everything to do with maintaining the expected level of civility and professionalism. Debates are about presenting points and counter points, not who be the most obnoxious and disruptive child.

Trump handled Biden... By the next debate, I expect we'll see Biden himself slurping on his new daddy Tump's boots.

He was more articulate than I expected. While I think Biden will be prone to future gaffes and flustering at least he jumped the low bar set at making him an incoherent old man. Still his attention span wanders off the topic being discussed. A lot like here on RF. *grin*

Mr. Trump once again demonstrated he's an out of control hothead.
And he was prepped by Giuliani and Christie, so what should we have expected?

To me, it was "Uncle Walter" debating an orangutan on acid. :D

Yeah he was badgering the whole time I watched it. It gave Sen. Biden the opportunity to be polite and regal. I almost forgot what the issues were. The questions and answers practically got lost in the drama.

Even I admit Trump interruptions were way overboard. Biden should be allowed to say his piece without interruption. Chris Wallace really sucks at moderation.

We desperately need Judge Judy as replacement moderator. I think she is the only one in existence with any hope of keeping Trump in line.

Final verdict..

What a disaster.
I'm not a fan of Wallace by any means, but I think he did a decent job trying to moderate Trump. Let's face facts, moderating Trump is basically Mission: Impossible.
If there is anyone on the planet would could get closest to doing it, I think it would be Judge Judy. :D

The fact that he behaved like a petulant child shows that Trump couldn't handle the situation at all. Ad homs, lies, and disruption aren't valid forms of argument. You don't win at chess by ****ting on the board.
But keep worshiping your Trumpus Christ.

In order to win this election, based on polls thus far, Trump would have to do much better with suburban white women where he's polling badly. Did he do that last night? I can't see it.

Now, what Trump last night would have undoubtedly impressed are white men with more testosterone than brains. :p

Yup. You can't moderate a chronic bully. You can only kick them out of the pool so they go troll somewhere else.

I am so glad that the first presidential debate I watched was an actual debate rather than... whatever the hell that was.

You're lucky. Sadly to say after all the hump against trump I finally watched one. Laughed more than I did learning any of their policies that wasn't blurred of personal biases.

I just wrote in another thread that I googled "dumpster fire" and the top links were stories about last night's debate.

An evening of insults and accusations as Trump repeatedly interrupts the debate

I think Trump's strategy was to dominate the debate making Biden as weak, and a person who wont be able to control tough negotiation environments.

The thing is this wasn't negotiations, but a debate where two sides must be able to speak their piece so people can make determinations as to where both stand on issues.

Trump came across as intrusive which I think didn't help matters and Biden was too polite for the most part.

I'm hoping the next debate Trump will learn to bite his lip and afford Biden to elaborate and put out his thoughts and perspectives so people can compare the two men's ideologies and game plans for the nation.

What I don't understand is why the GOP didn't have handlers at the ready to rein his **** in from the very beginning.

I suspect that the parties conspire to keep everyone afraid as much as possible, so that we'll depend reliably upon our party's decisions. If you're afraid Trump might win then you're less likely to vote for the Green party. If you're afraid Biden might win you're less likely to vote for the Libertarian party. etc etc

I dont see how anyone can reign in Trump to be honest, cept maybe Judge Judy.

I seriously started thinking about a shock collar watching that "debate."

And they can be reigned in. With accountability for their actions. Con artists like him may be practiced at evading accountability, but all it takes is one person who won't stand for his BS.

Also, because it's highly relevant, I recommend giving this a gander: A field guide to Trump's dangerous rhetoric

"His words are weapons, well calculated to attack our public sphere by increasing distrust, polarization and frustration – making it more difficult to solve political problems."

And knowing that's their strategy, this was absolutely accomplished in the "debate" last night. Ignoring political problems, not proposing solutions, and only adding to distrust, polarization, and frustration. It's why dumpster is a pathetic leader who has no business holding that office whatsoever.

Well, heck, since the Electoral College has made certain that my presidential vote hardly holds any weight at all, it means I'm free to vote for whomever I want from whichever political party I want. The republicrats don't own my worthless vote!
