Have you seen the documentary film Brexit? It was about how the Brexit campaign was run. Very interesting! Of particular interest was the innovative use of computers and AI to find disaffected voters and convince them to vote. It was very powerful -- and frightening.
Yes that’s why Rumpelstiltskin is in such thrall to IT. He seems to be running focus groups all the time. It won’t help Bozo govern, of course. Governing is different from campaigning.

But enough, we risk derailing the thread.....

Very sad. Those dumb creatures are about as dumb as one can get - the ones dressed in blue, that is.
And that obviously is not a one-off. Probably daily. Maybe repeated.
And what have they done to this being to subdue it so?
And how many other circuses like this are there?

I suppose the only thing that will get these countries to change is pressure from outside, as many don't seem that willing to halt such. But then I can remember when animals were frequent in UK circuses (might still be), even if they probably weren't treated as cruelly as we often see others behaving, although of course I probably wouldn't have known that then. I think I can recall seeing Roy Rogers and Trigger during one of his tours, but that was hardly cruel. I did go to quite a few circuses though - with mum and dad of course.

Hopefully banned in the UK now. Cruelty should at least cease at home.
Gove delivers legislation to ban wild animals in circuses

It's hard to see how to put pressure on China, given their global economic dominance. I try and avoid buying Chinese goods but it's not always easy - everything seems to say Made in China. I'm more in favour of the perpetrators being hunted down and treated the same or, ideally, worse. Not very compassionate and forgiving of me but there you go. They are scum.

Wildlife in 'catastrophic decline', report warns

~

"Wildlife populations have fallen by more than two-thirds in less than 50 years, according to a major report by the conservation group WWF.

The report says this "catastrophic decline" shows no sign of slowing.

And it warns that nature is being destroyed by humans at a rate never seen before.

Wildlife is "in freefall" as we burn forests, over-fish our seas and destroy wild areas, says Tanya Steele, chief executive at WWF.

"We are wrecking our world - the one place we call home - risking our health, security and survival here on Earth. Now nature is sending us a desperate SOS and time is running out." "

Will this be a wake up call, to Brits at least? The destruction of natural habitat, alien invasive species and historic persecution are the main causes of the declines.

Quarter of UK mammals 'under threat'

Sorry I'm late to the party.

My guess would be no. The only way this will become a wake-up call to the Brits or anyone else would be if homo sapiens were included in the quarter.

Perhaps the programme tonight will help, if only a few Brits. Peak Sunday evening viewing with our only national treasure, David Attenborough.

Amongst the many points made in the programme, I think so many don't probably consider the 'off-loading' of their guilt (or concerns) when they buy things now made almost exclusively elsewhere, and often where the rules are flouted in these countries as to any environmental harms their manufacture might cause - to such and to wildlife, besides any concerns regarding exploitation of the population. Not optimistic that the programme will have much of an effect though.

With the best will in the world boycotting all that we might like to is probably impossible. The Giki Badges app is useful.

"poultry today makes up 70% of all birds on the planet, with just 30% being wild. The picture is even more stark for mammals – 60% of all mammals on Earth are livestock, mostly cattle and pigs, 36% are human and just 4% are wild animals"

"comparison of the new estimates with those for the time before humans became farmers and the industrial revolution began reveal the full extent of the huge decline. Just one-sixth of wild mammals, from mice to elephants, remain"

- Humans just 0.01% of all life but have destroyed 83% of wild mammals – study
