If I were not a mod, adil, I would probably continue to engage in this silly debate, as I'm really kind of in the mood to spar with a "real" Christian at the moment. But, since I don't want to say something I'll get in trouble for, I'll just let you continue to rant. Nobody pays any attention to you anyway.

I am trying my darndest to spar but he obviously has me on ignore. Would somebody please get him to commit to his statement that every story in the bible is 100% accurate? Then I can proceed to give him a few hundred mutually exclusive verses and watch him dance.

Personally, I would like to see those verses, if just for my own education :)

I like the way you slip the last word in while saying you don't need it.

I have you on ignore because Christ taught us not to throw our pearls to the swine.

Not your average Mormon
This is NOT an official moderator post, but just my observation. We've all drifted way, way off topic. We're not supposed to be debating whether Mormons are Christians or whether the Bible is to be taken literally. Either of those topics could be discussed in a new thread, but unless I'm mistaken, it's only a matter of time till this thread is closed -- unless we all (myself included) get back on topic.

So it was said somewhere (now I forget which thread) that Jews believe in Hell, but not the same as the Christian Hell. How does it differ? I thought they didn't have one...

Gentoo, I do not have a list outside of my head but I would be happy to compile a non-exhaustive one for you. Just to get you started, here is a giant whopper of a contradiction.

Now you see him....

Gen 32:30
And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

Ex 33:11
11 And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

Ex 3:6
6 Moreover he said, I [am] the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

Now you don't....

John 1:18
18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].

1 Jn 4:12
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

yes, a whopper of a pickle isn't it?

Great topic for a new thread.... (I'm not going to start one though, in case you are waiting)

Here's what it pretty much boils down to, according to the site that Adil has given us:

1. Judged according to their deeds.
“…The dead, the great and the small, were standing before the throne…. And the dead were judged…according to their deeds” (Rev. 20:12).
This portion teaches that if Joel and Bill were doomed to judgement, and Bill stole 10 cars and Joel only stole 1 car (or told 10 lies and 1 lie, etc.), Bill’s punishment would be 10 times greater than Joel’s punishment because his evil deeds were 10 times worse. That’s fair.

2. Judged according to their knowledge.
“And the servant that knew his master’s will and did not get ready or act in accord with that will, shall receive much punishment. But the one that did not it, and committed deeds worthy of punishment, will receive little punishment. To whom much is given, much will be required” (Luke 12: 47-48).
This portion teaches that if Joel and Bill were both doomed to hell, and both stole 10 cars, but Bill learned that’s it’s wrong to steal, but Joel did not learn this truth (maybe he grew up on Pongo Pongo). Bill’s punishment would therefore be greater than Joel’s, because Bill is held more accountable for the knowledge he received. Joel still gets punished, for he still did deeds worthy of punishment, but to a lesser degree. That’s fair.

3.Judged according to their “status”.

“Not many of should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly” (James 3:1).
This portion teaches that if Joel and Bill were both doomed to hell, and both stole 10 cars, but Bill was the teacher (or leader, Rabbi, Imam, Pastor, President, etc.), his punishment would be greater than Joel’s since he was more responsible. Rank may or may not have its privileges, but it certainly has greater accountability before God. That’s fair.

That sounds a lot like the Christian Hell...unless I'm missing something in comparing the two...
