God is first and foremost, a human God. He feels, he cries, he gets lonely.
People don't build a statue or give birth immediately. They do it because it means something.
God created the Heavens and the Earth because as he says (unlike all the other things created, which are good) "it is not good for man to be alone." How does God know this? Because it is not good for God to be alone either.
So how about you guys stop giving grief about how long it supposedly took, when we don't actually know how long it took.

I've had the same question about the story-line that includes God creating humans at some point...whether it was 4000 years earlier or 10,000 or 6,000,000 years before hand. Why wait 'til ~2000 years ago to send the solution that even a marginally intelligent God would have to have known would eventually be needed if the kinds of things the humans were doing in the OT were what God looked at and said...'yep, I gotta do something about this.' Even I could tell that humans have much too much selfishness to ever 'just all get along.' So why wait? The only answer I could come up with was that Christ would be better received if there were prophecies foretelling his appearance and that would require humans having developed language, writing, and a sense of 'oh wow' when someone predicts the future and it comes true. Not that I believe there was a Jesus who actually fulfilled prophecies, but that COULD be an explanation if there was...(a Jesus who fulfilled prophecies).
