Actually, it says that only in pro-trinitarian translations which follow the KJV rendering of that verse....that is most of them.....John 1:18 says that 'no man hath seen God at any time', but it also says, 'the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him'.
The NASB renders that verse as...
"No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him."
So who is correct?
According to Strongs....
"No G3762 one G3762 has seen G3708 God G2316 at any G4455 time; G4455 the only G3439 begotten G3439 God G2316 who is in the bosom G2859 of the Father, G3962 He has explained G1834 Him."
The word translated "SON" in those pro-trinitarian Bibles is "theos" which means "god". So the NASB has it right. All the others have followed an error.
That means if John 1:18 translated "theos" as "Son", then John 1:1 should also.
That would make that scripture say...
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was the Son."
It doesn't take much to skew the language with one small change in the wording......does it?
If "theos" means "God", then how is God begotten? Who is his 'begetter'?
Then in John 3:11 Jesus says, 'Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.'
I cannot for the life of me understand why people insist on using the KJV, written in language that we do not speak in this 21st century...its almost as if they believe that the Bible was originally written in archaic English.
So.... in the language that we speak today, it says....
"Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know and testify of what we have seen, and you do not accept our testimony." (NASB)
So what is this actually saying? This is a conversation that Jesus had with with Nicodemus about being "born again". Reading from verse 4, it makes a little more sense....
"4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
9 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know and testify of what we have seen, and you do not accept our testimony. 12 If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?" (NASB)
In Jesus' day there was so much to see...miracles were being performed in Jesus' name...the lame were walking...the deaf were hearing, and the blind were seeing.....it was hard to refute what they saw, but the Jewish leaders and those who listened to them, did refute it. But today, we are passed the age of miracles because they accomplished the purpose for which God sent them....to demonstrate his acceptance of the disciples of his son as "the Israel of God" (Galatians 6:16), using the power of God's holy spirit as proof of that. Paul however, indicated that the age of miracles would cease....those who needed to see miracles were betraying the traits of a child.....when a Christian matures, he no longer needs to see with his literal eyes....his eyes of faith paint a wonderful picture. (1 Corinthians 13:11-13) Now, the main characteristics of a Christian are "faith, hope and love".
No man has seen God at any time because all men are sinful and not of God. But the Son of God has a spiritual insight that sinful man does not have. Only those 'born again' of the spirit can gain these insights because they come from the indwelling spirit of God.
No man has seen God at any time because he is not a material Being.....you cannot see someone who is invisible. Jesus was not God but a divinely produced human born to carry out a very important mission....to give his life in our behalf. He did not need to be God in order to do that.
Those "born again" are "born from water and spirit".....which means that they have undergone water baptism as Christ's disciples and have received an anointing with God's spirit as a token of their choosing....to forego their material life in the flesh, and take on spirit life with Jesus in heaven as "kings and priests". (Revelation 20:6) I do not believe that all Christians are chosen for that role. A kingdom needs subjects, so the small number taken to heaven will rule over the majority here on earth, bringing us back to God's first purpose in Eden. What God starts....he finishes. (Isaiah 55:11)
I believe that we are so close now to seeing Jesus manifest to judge the world and bring in the rule of his kingdom.....Revelation 21:2-4 will then see its fulfillment. The future is looking so good in comparison to what we are experiencing in the world right now......bring it on!
