Exactly. The USA has been "exporting" its legislation to the rest of the world for years, much to everyone else's annoyance.

It's a shame that China has decided to do the same, but all they've done is copy it from the USA.

The USA has for years made laws that apply to the actions of companies and people regardless of where in the world they are carried out. That is what is meant by "exporting legislation".

Every other nation abides by the principle that its laws apply only within the country.

Until now, with China.

That's not actually true.

"Sex tourism" legislation is one example that comes to mind. Travelling to another country to have sex with a child is a crime under Canadian law regardless of where in the world the crime happens (and regardless of the local law there). Many other countries have similar laws.

As the U.S. falls further and further into an abyss of greed, corruption, and incompetence, China feels emboldened. The power-mongers of the world are smelling new opportunities.

This is a big deal, and Beijing does pressure individuals. I recall about certain artists being pressured. There was that guy in Australia making political statements with his art. I can't remember his name. Then there's Shenyun performing arts, and there's a page on how Beijing applies pressure ( here )

Can you imagine a nameless individual in a foreign government becoming interested in you, just because you say something to a friend in Hong Kong? That's downright stupid. C'mon now. This is ridiculous.
