Finding compatible USB drives is a pain.
That's why I use the ones I have.
That reply confuses me. I'm imagining USB drives in a RAID array or maybe a magnetic tape drive with a USB connector or a dinosaur with a diaper rash. Those would have compatibility issues.

Just little thumb drives that work with Win98.
My son finds the drivers, & makes them work.

I did realize, I do have more in common with the Clampetts than I previously realized. Not only did we all come from the country to the city, we also both originally come from the Ozarks and found our way here. But I don't have Black Gold, I have Kodiak Bear.

I dont remember, did Windows 98 computers even have USB drives?
That is the singular reason that I use Win98.
My operating system (BOS, aka GSM) doesn't support those in native mode.
So I use a version which runs as a DOS application under Win98.
It tricks Windows into multiuser, multitasking, & reliable operation.

Windows 95 had some support for USB but not always, and the USB device had to be plugged in while the system was booting. Windows 98 was designed to have support for USB hot plugging. At first it was a little shaky but got better over time. There was a big presentation on TV of windows 98 hot plugging where the presenter plugged in USB and got the blue screen. This was hugely funny at the time, though Windows 98 turned out to be one of the best versions of Windows, better than its successor and more stable. I'm not surprised that Revoltingest still uses it offline. Its very solid.

So, while redecorating the entrance hall we noticed that the rather not too bad looking art deco ceiling lamp wires were not so good. This morning we bought a new lamp and Paul has just replaced the old with the new.

He took the old lamp down, placed it on the table and the insulation around the wires just crumbled to dust. Frightening.

Perhaps a case of just in time maintenance
