Not much of them about either it seems, which is a shame since they were quite good. The Northumbrian pipes are not heard as much as the Irish pipes, and this young lady is one of the best, if not the best, at the moment:

I be a Londoner, but haven't lived there since I was 19. :D

HIGH LEVEL RANTERS - Recordings

A have three albums of theirs I think - the first tune is from High Level and the other two I think are from the first album, Northumberland for Ever. Still going apparently, but line-up has changed. Doesn't look like their early albums are available on CD - where I often download individual mp3s if I don't want a whole album.

So, Mock Turtle, what sort of music do you want to listen to right now? Is there anything/genre that you feel fits the tone of this moment, right now, where-ever you are?

I'm feeling some Frank Sinatra coming on, but I don't want to dominate the thread....

What do you think we should listen to?

There is a lot of great music that never gets high enough in the charts for any airtime. Local clubs, pubs and uni concerts are a great place to hear obscure but fantastic sounds. Just as good (some better) than the popular stuff

I loved Portisheads gigs, very low key and cosy.

Want Sinatra?



The person who introduced me to Dead Can Dance likened Brendan Perry to Sinatra, and perhaps rather preferred the singing of Lisa Gerrard, but I have no issues with his voice. :D

As to what to listen to, I like a mixture, but as per many oldies, much modern stuff (the last several decades :oops:) just passes swiftly by, and my preference is more towards music than song anyway.

I should have added the titles (but so many of theirs are worth a listen) - the first being Felton Lonnin, the second Byker Hill, and the third, Dance to Yer Daddy.

You seen Portishead? Plural? Wow, mega envy. I adore their music. Wonder if they'll manage to put another album out in the next decade?
