The Human Journey

The human journey is not an easy one. When Jesus says that we have to take up our cross to follow him, he spoke the truth. Yet, his cross when experienced through our journey in following him, we find that the cross we bear is in actuality life-giving, and much lighter than crosses that we manufacture for ourselves. The harder we try to escape our pain, the worse things get.--Br.MD

The following verses come to mind:

Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart; and you will find rest. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

James 4:12-15 "Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business, and make a profit.” You do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that.”…

What I have found is that it is seldom expedient to only consider self in life's decisions, because it often goes better if you consider the wider picture and other as well.

Well said, thank you.
