When Cops Are Indistinguishable From Criminals

I prefer incrementalism.
(Starting from scratch portends making new unanticipated mistakes.)
But it's gotta happen.
I have some hazy memory of a case when a town (city? county?) disbanded its whole police force and rebuilt it from scratch. No more crimes were committed during the time with no police than usual. Wish I could find that article.

I vaguely recall the same thing.
It makes sense that a certain standard of behavior would be established.
But they'd eventually need a police force to avoid things worsening.
Besides, the state police & county sheriff would still be around.

All I have read on the case so far suggests that they were not "instantly arrested". They were fired on the same day, but charges were not pressed against them until May 29t, as far as I can tell, and so far, out of the four, only one of them has been reported to be in jail.

its still faster than it has ever been done, and what do you want? Instant lynching?

I know that town. It's still in trouble.

I'm talking about your framing of the situation.
I feel like calling the arrests "instant" was misleading, when those arrests only came as a reaction to protests, and not even all the suspects have been arrested so far.

Saying that this is the best the US justice system has ever gotten with police brutality is damning with faint praise, I think.

The one with the knee on the neck should've been arrested on the spot.
That (IMO) would'a gone a long way towards inspiring peace.

Richard Jewel .

Things like this TAKE TIME, even when the video SEEMS obvious. For instance, the autopsy says that asphixiation had no role in Flyods death. It doesn't ,mean that the officer did not kill Fflyod, but it means something else, and when I think of hos OJ was treate because he killed a white woman, because he was famous...because he is BLACK and black people are always the victims if the difference is skin color (an yes, I'm white but I marred a ''''black man" and have fice "black" kids, so don't you dare call me a white supremacist)

And now the riots are all becase the policemen werent shot or hanged instantly...that is, if the rioters even know Fjloyd's name (often they don't or dont' sare) wherever in the world they are breaking things and stealing suff.

Sometimes I juat purely hate people.

As far as I can tell, they hadn't even been charged with anything until people started protesting.

Pretty much. But let's face it, that's not how polices forces roll nearly anywhere on this planet.

Then maybe the police shouldn't have screwed up in this colossal manner in the first place.

That said, I don't think the protester's anger is about this single case. As far as I can tell, this issue has been brewing for a long time.

yeah, I've seen the videos self posted from Santa Monica (not far from where I am stuck, and an area my daughter is going to have to drive through, where one big fat white guy is directing pedestrian traffic of multiple races on how to get the best sneakers, kitchen appliance and other shoes...along with brand name purses and high end clothes hidden in the back storage areas, being thanked and hugged by those very multiracial people for telling them where to go get free stuff. I''ll bet you none of those people knew who Floyd was, what he supposedly died of, or anything at all. But they knew about free stuff. I have nothing at all but contempt for any of 'em. Protectors carry signs, and at most, spray cans. They don't ruin the lives of people who are just like them...with a little more ambition

I've seen videos where police shot teargas grenades into people's private homes.

Lake Wales FL police dept is entirely corrupt & abusive.
How can I blame them all? Management supports its
cops lying on reports & abusing civilians.

Baltimore cops rake in the cash by robbing criminals
& innocent citizens alike...selling illegal guns & drugs.
They also frame innocent people for crimes they didn't
commit.
Fascinating story about hugely widespread crime ring
extending beyond Baltimore, involving hundreds of
cops committing & covering up crimes.
Rogue Baltimore police unit ringleader Wayne Jenkins sentenced
That's the issue. Cops are still distinguishable from criminals. Criminals don't have a badge, they don't have legal authority, and they often pay for their crimes. The police are shielded with their legal and ideological weapons of mass destruction that protect them from their otherwise illegal actions and cover for those who have egregiously broken the law and irreparably damaged trust between the cops and the public covering their crap up.

Sheriff Oddie Shoupe has a violent record, but his
relationship with the local judge shields him from
prosecution. In this case, he wants a man killed
rather than apprehended....yes, it's recorded.
And he praises God that he lives for this.

In very many places, there are no good cops.
