Proof of Islam?

Wa alaykoum a salam

Eid mubarak, I just find the Gospel of Barnabas close to the teaching of Jesus peace be upon him, the writings attributed to Barnabas have been the source of dispute among biblical scholars. The early Christian writer Tertullian assigned to him the authorship of the Epistle to the Hebrews, in accordance with second century church tradition. The apocryphal Acts of Barnabas, a work of late date, recounted his missionary tours and his death by martyrdom in Cyprus. The existing Epistle of Barnabas, found in a New Testament manuscript (part of the Codex Sinaiticus), is morally instructive work.

You will find that some Christian Scholars claim that this Gospel has Arabic comments and was written originally in Arabic. Some even claim that it has an Islamic origin, or was used by Muhammad in writing the Quran. All historical accounts establish that Muhammad was unlettered; that is to say that he could not read or write. After Islam, there were debates between Muslims and Christians and no Muslim ever referred to that Gospel. Therefore, this Gospel was not known in Islamic history. Unless some scholars claim that Islamic history was corrupted and the usage of this Gospel was concealed! Anyone who studies Islamic history will immediately know that this is one of the many stereotype claims against Islam.

The interesting part is that if you look into the Gospel of Barnabas you will find out that it differs from the Biblical Gospels in the following basics of the Christian religion:

Jesus is not the Son of God. He was a great prophet.

The sacrifice that Abraham offered to God was Ismael and not Isaac.

The Gospel made clear prophecy about the coming of Muhammad.

Jesus was not crucified. The one that was crucified in Jesus place was Judas by another miracle of God.

Salaam and Eid Mubarak to you too!

Oh I agree that there are many similarities between the Gospel of Barnabas and Islamic teachings about Isa (pbuh). But if it was indeed a late work as the evidence suggests, later, certainly, than the Holy Qur'an, and likely much later, then it's not a reliable original source for the teachings of Isa (pbuh) and what happened to him. I personally prefer to stick to the Holy Qur'an and the authentic Ahadith in this matter.

You quite wrong about his return, both Islam and Christianity expect the return of Jesus at the end of times, and both expect trials and tribulations to occur at the time.
They can expect whatever they want to expect, but the same Jesus is not coming back to earth. He said so.

John 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

John 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Wrong, the same Jesus peace be upon him will come back , the same son of Mary, Islam sees Jesus return as a completion of his life and work, which he left incomplete. As the true Messiah, he alone has the power granted to him by God to defeat the false Messiah at the end of time. His rule will witness the invasion of the Gog and Magog, whom not even he will be able to defeat. Rather, he will pray to God who will then destroy them Himself. The end of the Gog and Magog will herald the beginning of a world hegemony in which every one will believe, or at least submit to, his reign as God’s representative. He will rule by God’s Law as taught by Muhammad (i.e. Islam), may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, until he dies at the age of about 70 or 75. In this period of time there will be plenty for all, and peace throughout the world. Then, some time after he dies and is buried, all the Muslims will be caught up by a breeze and wafted into the hereafter. The remaining people on earth will be unbelievers, and they alone will witness the final chapter of earth.

Dream on, along with all the Christians.

Anyone can talk about what is going to happen in the future and everyone has a different version and they all believe they are the only ones who are right.

One thing all the Jews, Christians and Muslims have in common is that they "believe" their religion is the one that will be elevated to a position of superiority when the Messiah comes. But obviously they cannot all be right.

It would be funny if it was not so sad. :(

These above verses from the Bible prove one thing that Jesus (peace be upon him) expected someone to continue his unfinished mission (the worship of One True God), Whom Jesus called "Eli" or "Elio" in his Aramaic language which corresponds to "Elohem" for the Jews and "Allah" for the Arabs (Muslims). He anticipated the advent of a Counselor and Spirit of truth like him whose words are true (coming from God), but not the Holy Ghost as claimed by authorities of the churches. The one who would come is a man like Jesus with flesh and bones, a prophet like him not the spirit of a different nature, which cannot be seen.

Further, Jesus (peace be upon him) said, that the spirit of truth will foretell and glorify him by taking his message from his unfinished mission and teach it to the people. All the above sayings were inspired by God and all were fulfilled by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
I believe that Muhammad picked up where Jesus left off and continued to the mission of Jesus in order to prepare people for the return of the Christ Spirit who would also be the Messiah. I believe that Muhammad was a Comforter, but not the Comforter and Spirit of truth that Jesus promised to send in John 14, 15 and 16. I believe that the Comforter was also the Spirit of truth and also the return of the Christ Spirit and also the Messiah. So the same man was all four of these. That means it could not have been Muhammad because Muhammad did not fulfill the OT and NT prophecies for the return of Christ and the Messiah. It is really as simple as that.

I believe that Baha'u'llah was the Comforter, the Spirit of truth, the return of the Christ Spirit, and the Messiah.
This is who Baha'u'llah claimed to be in His Writings. This is a very bold claim, so I would not expect anyone to believe it unless they did the necessary investigation and determined it was true for themselves.

If you dig deep enough in the OT and NT you will find that Muhammed was prophecised, the one I gave you was just few from the Bible, there are plenty more.

Bahaism has nothing to do with OT NT or Quran

I know that Muhammad was prophesied in the Bible, this was pointed out in the Baha'i Writings.

Baha'u'llah was the fulfillment of all the OT and NT prophecies for the return of Christ and the Messiah. I don't know about the prophecies in the Qur'an.

The Quran says not a person of the people of the book will be left, but will believe in Jesus before his death.

And death here is flowing with respect to the talk about not being killed or crucified.

So Quran says Jesus is still alive unambiguously.

So Quran says Jesus is still alive unambiguously.

Dont you believe that Jesus peace be upon him is alive? Well brother you have the Christians who believe that Jesus is alive today, and many denominations believe him to be active. They also believe that he has been resurrected already, and that he will never die again. The Muslim position, however, is that he never died, and therefore is still alive. It says in the Quran, that the Jews claim:

"We killed Jesus Christ, the son of Mary, Messenger of God."

However, God denies this, as the verse continues:

"But they killed him not, nor crucified him; It was only a likeness shown to them: Most certainly they killed him not. Rather, God lifted him up to Himself." (4:157-8)

You see this action of lifting is literally an upward movement, physically being taken from the earth into heavens, just as he will be physically brought back on the wings of angels from the heavens to the earth when he returns. Christians estimate his age to be 31-33 years of age at ascension, because the synoptic Gospels are considered to describe approximately 1 year of his life. The Gospel of John purportedly describes 3 years of his life from the moment he began preaching, of which Luke says:

"And Jesus himself began to be about 30 years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph … and (he) was led by the spirit into the wilderness." (Luke3:23and4:1)

Muslim scholars agree. Hasan Basri said, "Jesus was 34, while Sa’eed ibn Mussayyib said, "He was 33," when he was lifted up to heaven.

You have mentioned that verse "And there is none of the People of the Book but will believe in him before his death, and on the Day of Judgment, he will be a witness against them." (4:159)

God, here, is talking about the ‘People of the Book’ believing in Jesus before the latter dies well after he was lifted up into the heavens. The implication is that he is not yet dead. In fact, he is securely kept by God until he completes his appointed term. As God says in the Quran:

"It is God Who takes away the souls at the time of their death, and (the souls) of those that die not during their sleep. He keeps those for which He has ordained death and sends the rest for a term appointed." (39:42)

And:

"It is God Who takes away the souls at night, and has knowledge of all that you have done by day, and raises you up again that a term appointed be fulfilled; then will you be returned unto Him. Then He will inform you of all that you used to do." (60:60)

The term appointed’ denotes the numbered days of our lives, already known and confirmed by God. The word "to take away" is a promise made by God to Jesus which God will do when His messenger is threatened by disbelief. The Quran informs us that He told Jesus:

"Indeed I will take you (away) and lift you up to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve…" (3:55)

Thus we have a promise of God fulfilled when he saved Jesus from crucifixion, and another that will be fulfilled when He returns Jesus to earth and he completes his life here - a promise confirmed in the revelation given to Mary at the annunciation:

"God gives you tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be Jesus Christ, son of Mary, held in honor in the world and in the hereafter, and one of those who are nearest (to God). He shall speak to the people in infancy and when middle-aged, and shall be of the righteous." (3:45-46)

Since middle-aged is older than the early thirties, this prophecy concerns his speaking to the people after his return. So this second promise (that everyone will believe in him before he dies) concerns his second mission when he descends to earth again. When he arrives, he will be the same age as he left, and then he will live for another forty years. The Prophet, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, said:

"There is no prophet between me and him (Jesus), and he shall descend. He… will stay in the world for forty years; then he will die and the Muslims will offer the funeral Prayer for him." (Abu Dawood, Ahmed)

The return of Jesus will be close to the end of time. In fact, his descent will be one of the major signs the final hour is due. The Quran discloses that:

"He (the son of Mary) shall be a known sign of the Hour; so have no doubt concerning it and follow Me." (43:61)

His appearance will be followed by only two or three other unmistakable portents. Among these are the appearance of the beast, the wafting of the believers from the earth, leaving only disbelievers behind, and the rising of the sun from the west.

The ten major signs, among which is the second coming of Jesus, are summarized in one hadeeth:

"The Hour will not come until you see ten signs: the smoke; the False Messiah; the Beast; the sun rising from the West; the descent of Jesus son of Mary; the Gog and Magog; and three tremors - one in the East, one in the West, and one in Arabia, at the end of which fire will burst forth from the direction of Aden and drive people to the place of their final assembly." (Ahmed)

May God save us from disbelief and preserve us from being among those who witness the final moments.

How can Jesus still be alive in a physical body after over 2000 years?
Unless Jesus rose from the dead and got an incorruptible immortal body, as Christians believe, I do not understand how Jesus could still be alive. o_O

That's odd, the Torah in prelude to this, talks about Enoch. Elijah also is brought up. And so there is nothing odd about this, except, you guys making it weird when Quran confirms Enoch being risen up by God to a high place in confirmation and hadiths give the same interpretation, that Idris is alive and was risen up.

Elyas, Idris, and Khidr are all alive.

So why single out Jesus and Mahdi for all the opposition to that? As for Jesus, he won't die till all people of the book believe in him per Quran. Last time I checked Jews don't believe in Jesus and are counted among the people of the book!

The Quran talks about sky as a metaphor for some higher reality, it talks about for example, stars of guidance there. Every Ahlulbayt of their time, are stars of guidance to both Jinn and Humans who can look to the malakut and God adorned those lanterns for those who look and made them beautiful to them.

When Ahlulbayt of Mohammad (s) took that role, things changed for devils and their soothsayers all together.

They couldn't hear a thing, not even approach God's plans. All their predicting power of the future now just lies in plans they make without knowledge of God's planning and his determination generally on laylatal Qadr and in detail through out the year.

And the holiest place of prostration is there, although Masjidal Al-Aqsa has it's place in Shiite Islam as well, when Quran talks about journeying to that, it's referring to that place and reality.

Mohammad (s) ascended to that place in Suratal Isra, or will you say all that is just story and metaphor? Maybe just dreaming lol.

They can't predict future, and all their plans can be destroyed and altered especially if we all tune in and become part of God's plan. But if you will be part of God's plan, it's requirement you perform veil yourself prayers/magic, that is you are veiled from all vision of devils.

Can't have secrets leaked lol.

So what you are describing is another dimension, what Baha'is call the spiritual world. Baha'is believe that when the physical body dies, the soul ascends to the spiritual world and takes on a new form, an immortal spiritual body comprised of spiritual elements. All humans have a soul and since Jesus was human He had a soul that ascended and took on a spiritual body. So we believe that Jesus is alive in a spiritual body which is immortal,

Baha'is believe there are many worlds of God besides this world, even worlds that are inhabited by creatures but we do not claim to know which world Jesus inhabits, as the worlds of God are a mystery.

“Absolute existence is strictly confined to God, exalted be His glory. Well is it with them that apprehend this truth. Wert thou to ponder in thine heart the behavior of the Prophets of God thou wouldst assuredly and readily testify that there must needs be other worlds besides this world.” Gleanings From the Writings of Bahá’u’lláh, pp. 157-158

“As to thy question concerning the worlds of God. Know thou of a truth that the worlds of God are countless in their number, and infinite in their range. None can reckon or comprehend them except God, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.” Gleanings, pp. 151-152

“Verily I say, the creation of God embraceth worlds besides this world, and creatures apart from these creatures. In each of these worlds He hath ordained things which none can search except Himself, the All-Searching, the All-Wise. Do thou meditate on that which We have revealed unto thee, that thou mayest discover the purpose of God, thy Lord, and the Lord of all worlds. In these words the mysteries of Divine Wisdom have been treasured.” Gleanings, pp. 152-153

It is a common belief among Jews, Christians, and Muslims that some people are given long preserved lives or length in their lives, that God can easily give people very long lives or make them immortal without effort since this is all illusory anyway. So the Jews believed Enoch and maybe others were miraculously preserved in this way, some thinking that he was transformed into Metatron, otherwise the belief was that the dead go to an underworld existence like Hades which was called Sheol by the Jews and there they awaited judgment. Christians and Muslims sometimes had similar ideas but the Qur'an says everyone dies and they can't be communicated with, their death is like a sleep and when they wake up they won't even know they had been dead or for how long, as it will be entirely skipped as they weren't experiencing anything in between.

The argument that "How can Allah do that?" doesn't really work for religious people who believe in numerous and various miracles which are entirely easy for Allah to do.

The Muslims adopted the Anti-Christ stories after being involved with many Christian converts in Christian regions but generally the Qur'an makes no mention of this tradition and places its focus elsewhere, not on savior type figures or hope in that manner.

The Qur'an suggests that Jesus was saved from torture at the very least and does not clarify if his consciousness remains throughout or if he is in the same state of sleep as a dead person.

Even Satan (Iblis the Jinn) is granted miraculous longevity, he is not a magical creature but a physical one belonging to a race of beings that shares the planet known as Jinn, made of plasma (ionized gas, same stuff or material as fire) which appears gaseous like and these are the creatures many call "spirits" and "fairies" and "elves" and "daemons" and "shin" and "yokai" and whatever else and have written numerous tales about, today many stories about "ghosts" and "extra terrestrials" may be about this race which inhabits the Earth.

They are fully visible, real, non-magical, can be captured on recording devices, can be seen on heat vision cameras or with the naked eye with no special powers and are lied about constantly by people making up garbage, just like much of the human tales about most things are also made up silliness like playing the game "telephone" until the lies move far away from the truth.

Allah can create any sort of experiences, realms, delusions, illusions, realities, freely and instantly, inhabiting them, making anything, even unimaginably weird things, even this reality of ours contains many strange things which are biological and material, horrific realities and creatures.

Allah says in the Qur'an that he adds and removes appendages to creatures or creates whatever Allah wants to create, including horrific suffering or bliss states, and has nothing to answer to.

God, afterall, is an Atheist and Solipsistically worships nothing and animates and controls everything, knowing the terrible truth that None Upholds Anything save Allah, Allah is the only truly Living One, the Only Real Mind, we and all creations are perpetually and eternally lifeless and mindless and dead and are only slaves and puppets to God's generated moment to moment experiences created of which we are only experiencing a moment any moment and are told whatever we are and can be told we are anything else.

That makes Enoch, Khidr, Jesus, Muhammed, Ali, Hidden Imam, Baha'Ullah, all ultimately irrelevant and arbitrary in the grand scheme of things, things Allah just made up and could even delete from anyone's experiences or memories or all history in an effortless instant, because none of this is substantial, and only Allah, who is literally Like Nothing, is "The Real".

So, Allah creates experiences whereby Allah misguides many people by these characters, making men and women obsess over men and women, making men and women delude themselves in the praise and worship of Saints and Heroes, and forgetting the worship and fear of Allah, and Allah may also lead thereby such to their destruction, including many of the ones calling themselves Muslims along with others, and no one is safe.

Thus, one should use the good words of any people as best they can, but realize also that they are nothing, not important, their good work and deeds should be looked up to for motivation and all the good doers should be wished well upon and prayed for and to be in such company, but to realize they were not good except as Allah made them, that we were not there with them, that we don't really know them, and that they are irrelevant really and could have been freely exchanged for any other that Allah may have made up.

All that matters is Allah, worshipping Allah, thinking of Allah, remembering Allah, seeing Allah's work and activity behind everything and every moment, speaking the truth regarding Allah, inviting to Allah, and communication with Allah.

No one has the religion until you know Allah correctly, until Allah basically speaks to you from and through absolutely everything, shows you total power, so that you comprehend how much of an illusion this reality is, and how soluble and insubstantial it is, and how God has absolute and total control over every moment, and how you are Nothing really, except that out of all possibility and probability, Allah has made you to Be and you are, moment to moment, what Allah "says" you are and "says" you do, the Author of Your Life, Your Reality, Your Fiction, Your Figments.

If anyone adopts this understanding, surrendering to The One, and worshipping in the Ancient Fashion and expression with prostrations and acts and expressions of praise, worship, and surrender, and dhzikr and rememberance of Allah, and keeping yourself clean physically with hygiene all day inside and out and your bum and genitals at all times, your food being wholesome and good, what you watch and listen to being turned to good and constant rememberance of the truth, and realizing Allah is not remote but right here with us now directly behind this illusory sheet or screen that is your experience moment to moment and even behind your eyes and vision and senses and seeing just as you are seeing your hands and creating moment to moment the illusions before you, you are completely upheld by this One.

Few realize this or are allowed to, blessed to, and some have their understanding stripped after it is given, because Allah is terror too, and can destroy freely, which is why all of us are equally worthless and arbitrary, equally meaningless and expendable and exchangeable, and so should be so grateful for even a moment if pleasure or a sip of relief since Allah could've without restriction created anything including an existence or experience of pure torture ceaselessly. So beg for forgiveness and grovel about the good you have received even among the bad which is nothing to the infinitely worse Allah can make in an instant, don't think this reality is anything but a slower seeming dream with its dream logic.

Believe me. If you do this, maybe you will start to think differently, but few can, I think each one in this thread will likely be unmoved by any of this, and will retain every stupid thought thinking their way and belief is superior to this description of Ultimate Power.

If God punishes me for saying the Truth only about Ultimate Power, who can stop the Unstoppable? This is im resemblance to the style of speech put into the mouth of Jesus in the Qur'an and is truer in what it leads the mind towards than the collected things people are made to obsess about, which is more of a curse upon them and does not often lead them to this right and best thinking I have described.

Take it or leave it, and if you take it or leave it, will be Allah's doing really, and if you leave it, I'm given the delusion that anyone who leaves it or throws this message behind their backs will certainly be called to account for it, is likely cursed, and will likely suffer, but who knows!

This is who Baha'u'llah claimed to be in His Writings. This is a very bold claim, so I would not expect anyone to believe it unless they did the necessary investigation and determined it was true for themselves.

They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The Lord saith: and the Lord hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word. Ezekiel 13:6

Jesus speaks of the coming of the Messiah:

And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. Revelation 2:27

The rod of iron is Earthly correction:

Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. Proverbs 22:15

And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron. Deuteronomy 28:23

As heavenly gold and silver is not earthly gold and silver. Earthly gold and silver is just iron:

Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and ye shall eat your flesh as it were fire ye heaped treasure together for the last days. James 5:3

But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD. Joshua 6:19

Four directions: iron, brass, silver and gold.

Different levels as the hill is at a higher level than the valley as the river is higher than the sea.

And the mountains will be like wool. Quran 70:9

Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt. Amos 9:13

And say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God; Thus saith the Lord God to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys; Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places. Ezekiel 6:3

And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. Revelation 19:15

Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? he gave them as the dust to his sword, and as driven stubble to his bow. Isaiah 41:2

And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. Quran 56:7

North - West - East

Cattle - Goat - Sheep
Moon - Star - Sun
Corn - Oil - Wine
Spear - Sword - Bow
Straw - Dust - Stubble
Brass - Silver - Gold

Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay. Job 27:16

I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war. Psalm 120:7

He teaches my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken in mine arms. Psalm 18:34

Therefore set I in the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows. Nehemiah 4:13

The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear. Habakkuk 3:11

Rebuke the company of spearmen, the multitude of the bulls, with the calves of the people, till every one submit himself with pieces of silver: scatter thou the people that delight in war. Psalm 68:30

When the Event inevitable cometh to pass,
Then will no soul entertain falsehood concerning its coming.
Many will it bring low; many will it exalt;
When the earth shall be shaken to its depths,
And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms,
Becoming dust scattered abroad,
Quran 56:1-6

The mountains turning to dust means the sun rising in the west.

Like Zoroaster said about the metals melting and flowing like a river in the time of Frashokereti. Same thing.

Frashokereti - Wikipedia

The Messiah is he who holds the Silver Sword, covered in Oil, shining as a Star.

The sword he pulled from the stone:

Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts. Zechariah 7:12

The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. Nahum 1:3

Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. John 8:43

How can Jesus still be alive in a physical body after over 2000 years?
Unless Jesus rose from the dead and got an incorruptible immortal body, as Christians believe, I do not understand how Jesus could still be alive. o_O

interesting question, you see Jesus peace be upon him, was raised to heaven alive, and his return to earth will be one of the signs that the Day of Judgment is approaching. These beliefs are not based on whims or guesswork, but are narrated to us through authentic sayings/traditions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Now God created Jesus without a father, He can raise him alive because He is the almighty and plus this is a matter of the Unseen known only to Almighty God, and as such, it can only be known through Divine Revelation. But as a Muslim, I am not allowed to guess when it comes to matters of the Unseen. Certainly, one might say that "there doesn't seem much point in this", but part of Islam is trusting in the wisdom of Almighty God.

I feel that I should mention that the Bible also contains at least two instances of prophets being taken up to Heaven by God before they died.
If you look at the Old Testament, II Kings2:11-12 tells us: " . . . and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it, and he cried . . . And he saw him no more . . . ". Also, Genesis5:24 tells us that Enoch "was taken" by God. That this means up into Heaven is confirmed in the New Testament (Hebrews11:5), where it says: "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God translated him . . . that he had pleased God".

But anyway . . . the main points that should be considered here are two:
1) being taken up into Heaven before death does not imply any sort of "Divinity", since neither Elijah, Enoch nor Muhammad are considered "Divine";
2) even though God may state His reason for doing such a thing, i.e. Enoch pleased Him, or to save Jesus from the Jews, the overall wisdom behind it may still seem strange to us. However, the meaning of Islam is "submission to Almighty God", and realizing that Almighty God is the most wise is part of our faith - so we know that if knowing something would benefit us, God would have revealed it. By the way, I mentioned Muhammad, peace be upon him, along with Elijah and Enoch above, because he too was taken up to Heaven. However, he was the only one to come back to earth afterwards - which is a unique blessing for him and his followers.

Also, for a believer in Pure Monotheism (i.e. a Muslim), what did or did not happen to Jesus, peace be upon him, is of no consequence to their faith - which is in Almighty God alone. Muslims believe what they believe about Jesus (i.e. that he was not crucified and that he was taken up into Heaven) based on Divine Revelation, not human reason. On the other hand, Christians insist on Jesus' death on the cross because they believe that it needed to occur for their "salvation". However, if one understands Pure Monotheism properly, what happened to Jesus, peace be upon him, is of no consequence one way or another. Certainly, Almighty God could have allowed him to be killed (just like other prophets were killed), just as He could have explained what happened to him in greater detail, if He so wished. However, He - due to His Wisdom - chose not to. And He is the best disposer of all affairs . . .

Concerning why Muslims believe that he has not died, and that he has been raised alive, it is because the Quran (and thus God) says so. However, since the various verses on this issue may have left you somewhat confused, I am including a detailed excerpt from a well known Islamic scholar which discusses many aspects of this in detail. Writing in the 12th Century after Jesus, peace be upon him, Shaikh-ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said:

"Almighty God did not state that Christ died, nor that he was killed. He said, rather: "O Jesus, I am gathering you and causing you to ascend to Me, and am cleansing you of those who disbelieve" (3:55).

In the Quran (4:147) God has made it clear that He has raised up Christ alive and saved him from death, and that they will believe in him before he dies. This is confirmed by God's saying, "and I am purifying you from those who have disbelieved" (3:55); had he died there would have been no difference between him and others.

The word al-tawaffi in Arabic means "completion" and "receiving" and that is of three kinds: a) the completion of sleep; b) the final completion of death; and c) the final completion of soul and body together. It is in this third meaning whereby Christ went out from the state of the people of the earth who have need of food, drink, and clothing, and he departed from them in matters pertaining to natural functions. God brought Christ to this state of completion; he is in the second heaven until the time he descends to earth, and his state is not like the situation of the people of the earth in eating, drinking, dressing, sleep, natural functioning, etc.

Many will it bring low; many will it exalt;
When the earth shall be shaken to its depths,
And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms,
Becoming dust scattered abroad,
