1. Warning 1: the believer must not defile himself in any illicit, perverted sexual act (Leviticus 18:24-25). All sin defiles a person, but some sins cause so much corruption and dirt that God especially despises them. Sexual perversion is one of these sins.
Note what God says: sexual perversion was the terrible sin that defiled the Canaanites. Even the land was defiled by sexual perversion. How?
à Immorality made the land unfit and unworthy for Godâs presence and Tabernacle.
à Immorality made the land unfit and unwholesome for Godâs people lest the evil influence contaminate them and lead them astray.

The land had become corrupted, defiled, despicable because of immorality and acts of illicit and perverted sex. Note what God did: He punished the land because of the sin. He vomited or removed the people from the promised land. What a descriptive picture! A people so sexually perverted that they nauseated the land itself. They just made the land unfit for God and for decent people to live within its borders.
2. Warning 2: Godâs people must keep Godâs laws and decrees. The believers must not follow the Canaanites in their immoral behavior, must not engage in illicit sex, must not commit sexual perversion (Leviticus 18:25). The believer must obey God: live a holy, moral, and pure life.
3. Warning 3: Godâs people must not allow any personâa native-born citizen or a foreignerâto commit such illicit and detestable sexual acts and perversions (Leviticus 18:26-27). Why be so strict when dealing with native-born citizens and foreigners? Because sexual deviancy was a common practice among so many of the Canaanites, and their deviancy polluted and defiled the land. Sex is a normal act. If illicit sex was condoned, many would be influenced and led astray. Therefore, Godâs people must work to keep the whole of society morally pure and clean.
4. Warning 4: the judgment of God will fall if illicit and perverted sex is allowed to permeate and corrupt the land (Leviticus 18:28-29). Note what God says:
à The land will reject, vomit His people out.
à All persons who engage in illicit and perverted sex must be cut off. No matter who the persons are, they will be cut off from God and from the people of God.
5. Warning 5: the believer must keep Godâs laws and live a life of separation. He must not follow any of the detestable customs of the worldly (Leviticus 18:30).
6. Warning 6: note the supreme authority standing behind the laws governing sexual behavior: âI am the LORD your Godâ (Leviticus 18:30). The point is this: God, as the Creator and Sovereign Ruler of the universe, has the power and authority to execute justice and judgment upon His people. And He will.

âKnow ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? âNow the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of Godâ (Galatians 5:19-21).
âBut the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second deathâ (Rev. 21:8).
2) He demands that the believer separate himself, have nothing to do with the sexual immorality of his neighbors and the world. The believer is to live a holy, moral, righteous, and pure life, a life that is different from the worldly, a life that is separated and set apart to God.
âI beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of Godâ (Romans 12:1-2).
âWherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almightyâ (2 Cor. 6:17-18).
