what atheism teaches us

I guess I am just fortunate my physical health has been good. I know all about respiratory ailments as my husband has severe asthma and he has to use a nebulizer machine to stay alive. He did smoke but he finally quit about 25 years ago.

I have always stayed physically active so that might be one reason I am healthy. I do not eat terribly bad but I am not a health nut either. I really need to get more sleep on my work days because 4-5 hours does not cut it. I have been on a stay at home vacation for three weeks but I go back to work next week. That means less posts and more bike riding. I do not mind that but I do mind getting up at 5 am. :(

Been there, done that, in regards to smoking and asthma. I was never too heavy of a smoker, but I could feel it making my own breathing getting worse. When I quit my body gave me one last heck of an asthma attack, I think mainly because I was not being forced to cough up the nastiness from smoking. As a result I was in the hospital for three days. My doctor said that I would start smoking again since my roommate smokes. He was wrong:p I have noticed an improvement in the 8 years since I quit. Did your husband improve after he quit?

I am glad to hear you quit smoking. You are fortunate if you have not had any lung damage or asthma.

My husband was not a heavy smoker either, maybe just a pack a day. I think my husband's asthma has gotten better over time since he quit smoking but I really cannot remember back to 25 years ago. ;) I think it was determined that he had some permanent lung damage but at least he never got lung cancer or emphysema, which is obviously more serious than asthma. He has remained stable for many years, maintained on ventolin and steroid inhalers as well as the nebulizer machine. I can recall about 15 or more years ago when he had to be rushed to the hospital but he has has no such episodes since he got the machine at home. He never wanted to smoke again after he quit. He does not even like being around smokers because it makes him ill.

I already had asthma, a pack a day was a lot for me. Usually about a half. But the asthma is under control and there are no cravings for tobacco. Not bad.

I don't know if the smoking is what caused my husband's asthma but he said it exacerbated it... I am glad your asthma is under control and you do not crave tobacco... Some people struggle with that for years and never quit.
I never had asthma so I do not know what it feels like.

Here let me sum up your post:

1) You seriously believe you are somehow superior to everyone else.
2) You do not believe you need to follow normal language conventions (see #1)
3) You really really think you are better than everyone else. (see #1 and #2)

It appears I've hurt your feelings, sorry. Maybe you can think of something relevant to say in a couple of weeks. It might help if you didn't actually try of touch base with every logical fallacy in the book next time...you know, try using reason and facts. :)

Oh, what I posted was very relevant. And your post, above? Proves each of my points-- most especially #1 and #3...

Atheism is not a belief set. There are not rules to apply to determine if you are an atheist or not. It is much like my deciding to have a hamburger today. What does that teach you?

Atheism teaches us that God is very patient and merciful.

so if god knows everything... why would he bother with any of it. He already knows what people are going to do. he knows how everything will end, there is simply no purpose for god. If there is a god, he would be insane by this point since there simply is no point in any of it.

Why send your son down to save people? He would already know who would be saved and who will not. Why test job to see if he will break. god already knows the answer, or should.

I suppose putting people in heaven is a bit like putting fireflies in a jar. They don't do anything and after you have a few billion, it must be get old. you know how those bugs all squirt a tiny bit of fecal matter and liquids into the jar and eventually you just throw out the whole jar rather than clean it... does god occasionally just dispose of heaven and get a new cloud?

Atheism teaches us that God is very patient and merciful.
I get the patient part... he had to wait 13 billion years for mankind to arrive. but he already knew that we would and i suppose it must be a let down... god:"Yeah, i knew they were going to be here, and i know what they are up to. *yawn* "

atheism teaches us to see things as they are and not as we want them to be. atheism is the greatest tool when we want to examine facts apart from imagination. we all should have an atheistic mind to some degree, because it might help us to see things from a different point of view other than a religious one. maybe atheism will help us understand religions better.
I disagree. Just because a person does not believe in God, does not mean they can't believe in other ridicules things.

And just because someone does believe in God does not mean they believe in the ridiculous things that some religions teach. ;)
