Thinning the herd?

I'd agree if we were talking about the Black Death, but for the irresponsible young people the poster is referring to, they are just going to get ill for a few days. Like me (I've got it, as we speak, but very mildly, so far.)
Oh no! You have the Corona virus???

I hope you make a full recovery

They are probably more at risk of cut and stab wounds during alcohol fueled feuds than getting the virus.
And you are speaking as a public health expert on the virus? You should check if this is true before posting what may amount to dangerous disinformation and advice during a time of a serious public health crisis. "Loose lips sink ships", as they used to say. You bear a responsibility to others by ignorantly suggesting dangerous activities are probably safe, when they are most definitely not.

You do realize don't you that one can carry the virus and have little or no symptoms yet infect someone else. It is called asymptomatically transmission. I blame the stupid parents of these children who only think of themselves.
One doesn't always have the control one wants over one's kids.
Sometimes they'll do things we don't even know about.

I'm in little doubt about that ;), but thanks for the good wishes.

Look, we're mostly going to get it eventually. That's how we will get herd immunity. According the data I've seen, they think 60% will need to get it.

The game is not to stop you catching it, but to limit the numbers catching it at any one time, so that the small proportion of cases that need hospital treatment (mostly elderly or already unwell) don't swamp the health system.

This is exactly correct. That is why being a "I'm not going to get it, and if I do I'm young and will recover", sort of mentality is brazenly selfish and short sighted. It's not about protecting you. It's about slowing the spread of it to not overwhelm the healthcare system where doctors are having to send people home to die, rather than being able to possibly save them. Those who might recover, will be put at risk, and thus it won't be just old people dying.

This is a time to stop being a selfish child and crying about your freedoms. Do it for others. This is about the public.

So they deserve to die just for following their instinct as a social animal and wanting to socialize instead of being stuck at home alone? Wtf.

WWMRD?

People are going to do what people are going to do regardless of what one anonymous poster on some Internet forum somewhere says. I have no delusions that the impact of me, you , or anyone else on this site has much if any effect on human behaviour in the real world when it comes to posting here. People on the U.K. do have a habit of stabbing each other and more people in bars equals more chances for altercations.

In the UK they benefited from free university education, with free maintenance grants that they'd never ever have to pay back

But when they grew up and got political power they went and discontinued the free university education they themselves had benefited from - didn't want to pay it out of their taxes even though they happily took tax payers' money...

Graduates are now burdened with thousands of pounds of student debt

I am too and I didn't even graduate

The people who are at fault here happen to be baby boomers

Seems pretty self-serving to me

They? Hahahahaha Many of us voted for the opposition rather than the party in power. And we weren't the ones deciding on grants and such. And if you care to take the trouble, the grant was hardly enough to live on. Blame later governments for student problems now, not those who lived earlier (Note! Most people aren't in government). You, and so many, are quite willing to project onto a group what a few actually did. Will you do the same for each subsequent generation? Pathetic!

Unfortunately, people will listen to you. You need to be more responsible. Speak responsibility. Don't reinforce stupidity in people.

It seems to me that those who spread misinformation are the least qualified to castigate others for being irresponsible.

From msn ...

Americans of all ages have faced serious health complications amid the new coronavirus outbreak, a federal health report says. New data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that among the roughly 12% of COVID-19 cases in the U.S. known to need hospitalizations, about one in five were among people ages 20 to 44. The CDC report tracked the health outcomes from Feb. 12 to March 16 for the 2,449 COVID-19 patients in the U.S. whose ages were known.

What that extract does not show is the proportion of people with the disease who need to go to hospital. That proportion is already very low. If say 5% of cases need to go to hospital, and (per your quote) only 1 in 5 of those cases is in the age group we are talking about, then the chance of a member of that group needing hospital treatment if they catch it is 1%.

Has Fox News claimed it's a hoax?
(I don't watch it.)

At a campaign rally on Feb. 28 in North Charleston, S.C., Trump said accused the Democrats of using the coronavirus as "their new hoax."

Supposedly it came from commentary on Fox. But who knows the chaining sequence of the echo chamber

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

Nature is indifferent. For some people, the urge to socialize can be pure instinct I think.

It's just how the forces of nature work.

At this point the people who are going to the hospital are ones who can barely breath. Our recovery rate is like 36%. Italy it's 57%. Does this mean the socialists countries have better healthcare?

"Supposedly", eh.
I'm no fan of Fox News, but we should take care to not falsely accuse.

I think you're giving way too much credit to some random people on a message board, especially Stanyon (no offense to him).
